He imprinted on your wife and is protective of her. It's instinctive for him.

chalk this up to him not recognizing me and and it being slightly dark

That dog knows exactly who is in the house without even seeing them. Slightly dark? The fricker has night vision. He knows its you and doesnt like you sleeping in HIS bed with HIS wife. Move out.

Sounds like you know the root of the issue, but now you gotta fix it.

First, the dog knows it's you 100%, so don't think he is just confused.

You should have nipped it, pun intended, immediately once the dog started the routine of growling at you in the morning, as opposed to making an excuse for it.

Whether you continue to allow the dog in the room or not is not really relevant(but don't allow it on the bed), but what you do when your dog decides to growl at you is. Or, I guess it is relevant as it would be easiest to just not allow the dog in the room at night, but I guess what I meant is you can still do that as long as you teach/train him on the spot going forward.

Get rid of the dog, you can never trust him and he's a huge liability risk hanging over your head now. If he ever bites another kid/person, you'll feel like shite and deserve it bc you knew it was possible, plus you can likely have the shite sued out of you.

This statement indicates that this type of behavior has happened before and you have not corrected it.

The dog is showing possessiveness over the bed and/or your wife. He sees himself as the "alpha" probably because he has seen your naked in the shower and knows what he is up against.

Mistake. Cup your hand and jab him in the neck with three fingers, similar to a dog necking another dog. Get him to submit and don't release him until you can actually feel and see all of the energy being released from him.

We have spoiled him a good bit and he is well taken care of.

He needs to learn his place in your household. Socialization, training and exercise would be a good start.

I have a full blooded mini-Dachshund. My young daughter dropped him while taking him off my bed. He bit her butr did not break the skin. She cried, I over-reacted, he was afraid. As I was reaching for him under the bed he bit me drawing blood.

I got even agrier, grabbed him by the neck and explained that if he ever bit me again, it would not be good.

15 minutes later, I came in the room and we "made-up". He is my faithful buddy today. follows me everyewhere, listens very well.

He is a part of the family. He is my faithful companion. I love him. If he ever breaks skin on me again, things will not be good for him.

Dachshunds can be bastards.

Don't let the dog sleep in the bed with you. A small dog might be ok but 50 pounds? Trashy af.

He must be protective of your wife. When going back in the room to kiss your wife, talk to him as you are entering.. like "what are you doing boy?" to assure him it is you.

Don't punish him. At this point it is too late anyway. And the only thing you can do is slap the shite out of him in his snout right after he does it, but I would think you would want him to be somewhat protective of your wife.

My dogs bite me from time to time, but not in an angry way. It's when we are playing around and I get them too worked up, one of them will grab on me to try to steer me a certain way and sometimes they will grab me a little harder than usual. It doesn't really hurt, I will have a mark or something, but one of my dogs is extremely protective of me.

Even with people he is familiar with, if they get to close to me, they little son of a bitch will get in front of me and start barking.. Then he will lay down in front of me and watch every move they make. He is also protective of my other dog.

They protective on is a mixed chihuahua & weenie dog. The other one is a mutt. I am pretty sure she has jack russell in her, but other than that I don't know, but she is a little bit bigger than the other one, but if they are in the back yard and a dog comes up to the fence. They both run to the fence and the protective one gets in front of the other one and starts barking with a growl..

The other day there was a lab mix that was at the fence and that little bastard took off running towards this dog that was probably 4 times the size of him and was barking in a mean, growling way and that lab mix ran away whining. But yeah, he is just being protective.

For future reference, they never bite your finger if you are kicking them in their head like you are supposed to do.

1.) how does anyone allow a dog to be in bed with em, gross.

2.) if you kick him out of bed, he will piss all over your house at night, so kennel his arse up for ever more.

pitbulls bite bc of their protective instincts too. frick that. my kid got bit at a state park by some fricking bulldog built like Rocky IV. MY kid was on his bike and fell off right next to him being walked by a small girl, he lunged at my boy and breaking skin pretty bad on his leg... if that was his neck... it could have been bad. frick dogs that bite. All of them. frick them.

I've never had a dog who follows the same sleep schedule as me. If I put them on the bed, they usually just walk around and climb on my face all night.

Get the dog off of the bed. He's viewing it as his and not yours. Not acceptable.

Next time the dog growles at you PUNCH him square in the ribs. He's not afraid of you. He should be.

Dont slap him, dont kick him, dont hit him. PUNCH him square in the ribs. Knock the wind out of him. If he reacts defiantly, kick him square in the jaw. Do this untill you are perceived as the alpha.

I love dogs, have had them all my life. They do sleep in my bed and on my furniture. When I tell them to get down, the listen. They view me as alpha, because I am alpha.

Right after they drag their paws thru their own piss they are glad to wipe em on your bed linen and your face.

Nasty bastards. I have my dog under my desk right now and kicked him just to make sure he knows whats up.
