Couldn’t help but notice the similarities last night while watching the fire in and around Malibu and think about Maui.

How difficult is it going to be for the residents of both locations to keep that property and rebuild? Many without insurance compounded by permits, probably taking years to pull for construction to begin.

How long before private equity groups come in and scoop up a lot of that property that the residents are financially unable or unwilling to rebuild upon? Some of the most valuable real estate in the world.

Conspiracy theory: If you can’t get people to sell then burn ‘em out.

Billionaires don't have insurance?

Also, blame California politicians. The cost of everything there is higher than it needs to be.

Yeah I noticed the houses with the blue roofs were spared by the fires.

With no firefighting infrastructure, why would you rebuild there. I get the insurance issue but if you are really rich, you move somewhere else that has much less risk.

I met a movie producer when I lived in L.A. who owned some acreage in Malibu he was trying to build on. He was in year 9 of trying to acquire the permits. 9 years all because of the strict regulations due to multiple factors even including the type of vegetation his property had. He had to present a plan to mitigate as much vegetation damage as possible.

People who think dealing with wetlands mitigation in Louisiana is bad have never tried to do anything in a liberal hell hole like SoCal

ETA: Interesting side note...the producer is dead now but people think he faked his own death because he had massive debts and ties to the Russian mob

Remington Chase, Film Producer Accused of $234 Million Fraud, Has Died in U.K.

quote:

Chase and another associate, Stefan Martirosian, produced several films about a decade ago, including “End of Watch,” “Lone Survivor” and “Escape Plan.” The L.A. Weekly reported in 2014 that they had each been convicted of cocaine trafficking and worked as federal informants, and were also accused of involvement in a Russian assassination plot.

They will be fine, but not EVERYONE that lives there are billionaires. The ones who are not, could get forced out.

I'm no flat earth clown but wouldn't put something like you're suggesting past "them".

Right. I saw where Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag lost their house and said they are not rich and lost all they had. He also said he doubts insurance is enough for them to rebuild there

It is expensive to build in SoCal but even more so in that area.

This conspiracy might have some weight to it if CA didn't have massive wildfires literally every year. This year is starting off to be one of the worse years it appears.

Doesn't matter how much money you have if no one is offering policies.

Well many of those folks are super wealthy. They’ll be fine. I could care less about Hollywood etc. it’s the regular people, animals and land that this is gut wrenching.

This is so fricked. No water???
It's sad but when I see disasters like this, the first thing I think about is Government involvement.

Everybody knows it was the same Jewish space lasers that started the fire in Hawaii.

Good luck to the property owners rebuilding. I hear the permit process requires presenting a unicorn horn to the permit department.
