The problem with inheritance is once you have it it can not be comingled or it becomes community property (at least in a lot of states). If the marriage continues for years after one party coming into an inheritance it is hard to prevent comingling.

I agree with Tiger. As an adult you have an obligation to yourself to consider every single possible outcome even the unlikely or hopefully the unfathomable. However you have to protect yourself especially with marriage. The person you marry today isnt the person you may be married to tomorrow. While men tend to get exploited the most through divorces, well off women are also at risk.
Considering the divorce, infidelity, and gold digging rates in this country to not shield against that would be foolhardy.

But what about the fruits of that separate property? Therein lies the rub.

If this is the case, the family is making her ask for it just as much as she may be asking for it.
Yes, sometimes it can be a sign that they already think it will fail, but with that type of money, she is being told that she has to have this done. Sign it.

Correct, her grandfather requested it.

If he doesn't want to sign it then he's not from a wealthy family

He isn't due to inherit millions, no.

More people need to sign prenups/separate property agreements. Everybody thinks “oh, we’re in love and we don’t have anything, what does it matter?”
Fast forward ten years and somebody has a substance abuse problem. Somebody is morbidly obese. Some body is banging a coworker. Somebody is abusive. There’s 2+ kids. There’s a mortgage. There’s car notes.
shite happens. Plan for it.
Best reply that I've read so far. Marriage is a business transaction and should be treated as such.
Kanye foretold this years ago.
