**UPDATE*** Thank you to TD POSTER LSUENVY for locating a video showing my brother alive. We are currently working on getting him home for Christmas and getting him the help he needs. Thank you to everyone for their prayers and support, and especially LSUEnvy for solving the case
I rarely share personal stuff here but I have seen the impact, influence, detective skills etc over the years so I’m putting this out here. I also know there are many posters residing in the LA/ South Bay Area, so perhaps yall may have something helpful. This has been shared for several weeks on Facebook, and there are several posters here that know me IRL that can vouch this isn’t some twisted troll. My brother is a 32 year old (looks 22) coast guard veteran that has zero criminal history nor track record of “going off the grid” this long. Yet the local PD’s are giving the situation little to zero interest because he is an “adult of sound mind.” So bc he’s not a toddler and doesn’t have down syndrome, they are Essentially lumping him in with the thousands of vagrants in the streets.
I last spoke to him the morning of Tuesday, August 24th where he informed me he had been involved in a major car accident two days earlier. He said vehicle totaled, he broke several ribs, as well as his nose and had 10 stitches above his left eye. He also said he had recently moved out of his place and was temporarily staying at a friend’s apartment while in the process of moving into a new place.
Following that FB message on 8/24, he had no communication with myself or any other family from 8/26-8/30. I filed the missing person report on 8/31.
I learned 5 relevant things through my preliminary calls from home: 1–he was admitted and discharged from the hospital on the same say (8/22) and was at the friend’s place healing up for 3/4 days. 2–He either assumed his phone had been lost/damaged in the wreck or didn’t care enough to make any attempts to retrieve it from the Torrence PD. 3–the officer should have brought his phone to the hospital instead of bringing it to the station since he wasn’t charged with anything that would’ve justified that procedure. 4– he swung by his place of employment the morning of 8/28 to pick up his check, speak to his employer about the nature of his injuries, and give a timeline for when he would be able to return to work and 5—The last documented activity we have for him was a citation with essentially no details at all. No nature of the offense/court date, nothing. It was issued by Hermosa Beach PD around 5:30pm on September 1st.
He never gave me a name or address for the place he was supposed to be moving into, and the friend did not know either. Following a week of speaking to the detective along with calling all friends/fellow employees, hospitals, jails, etc and coming up with nothing—I flew from Houston to Los Angeles the morning of September 9th. 4 straight days I hung flyers all over South Bay focusing on the areas he had been living and working in (Redondo/Hermosa/Manhattan). I spoke to the bartenders of places he was known to frequent, and to as many people as I could that knew him and many that didn’t. I flew home that Sunday with essentially nothing new/significant.
He’s never exhibited this kind of behavior before; he would’ve purchased a new phone/gained internet access/reached out to us weeks ago—but certainly by now. By California law he is classified as “an adult of sound mind” thus law enforcement cannot (will not) spend any resources or manpower actively searching for him. Which is frustrating considering as stated earlier he is a coast guard veteran with ZERO criminal background, definitely drinks/parties but nothing hardcore and he also sustained a major head injury in the accident. The hospital discharged him only hours after admission(the nurse told me normally they would’ve kept him a minimum of one night for concussion protocol) due to overcrowding from Covid.
We’ve retained a local private investigator who is former LAPD and is trustworthy, hardworking and just overall solid. He’s interviewing people (not ruling out foul play) and also continuing to get flyers out. So we have boots on the ground locally but idk what else to do. Such a frustrating, helpless feeling man. I hate this. Appreciate y’all reading and I’m staying hopeful for a positive outcome.

Thank you to everyone for all the kind words, it’s been a rollercoaster of emotions the last 3-4 months and especially the last 24 hours when the video was discovered. I was able to get in touch with the guy Mark that creates the videos and he said my brothers interview was filmed about 3 weeks ago, but Colin is also one of the few that he routinely checks in on and last saw him Monday or Tuesday of this week.
I tried calling the local LAPD station that handles Skid Row to get a unit out there so I can get on the phone with him, they said they would but I never heard anything back from them. I also called the P.I. who has been working the case but he’s in San Francisco until Monday, I then heard from one of his coast guard buddies who lives in North Hollywood who has volunteered to go down there today and get him. His name is Charlie and he’s a good man who assisted me when I was out there searching for him back in August. So hopefully Charlie locates him within the next few hours (he’s searching the area colin mentioned in the video along with another area Mark said he knows Colin to frequent) and calls me with Colin on the other line. I’m going to be extremely happy to finally hear his voice and hopefully he will be willing to accept the help we are going to offer.
The plan from there is for him to stay with Charlie and for me to get on the next flight from Houston to LAX, bring him home and get him checked into a local detox center. I am praying this all goes smoothly as possible and I promise to keep y’all updated as much as I can. I am so grateful he is alive and looking forward to what will hopefully be a successful full recovery. Thank you all again for everything
I AM FOREVER INDEBTED TO THE OT

Charlie has found him! I just spoke to him and he’s 100% on board with getting out of there and getting help! He’s staying at Charlie’s house tonight and I’m flying out tomorrow to pick him up. This is the biggest relief of my life. So happy man. Thank you and Merry Christmas to you and your family

Have you reached out to any veterans groups? He may not contact them but vets are everywhere and they may take it more seriously.

To echo Wolfhound we (family and will ask that it be added to prayer list at church) will be praying for the safe return of your brother. It’s a big world. Hope he’s ok

I spoke to the nurse who discharged him. She verified the injuries. I spoke to the tow yard that has his totaled vehicle.

Is it possible your brother is a spoke for the CIA and is off doing some kind of undercover operation?

I'm surprised that with the car accident and head injury they are sticking so hard to the "sound mind" classification.
Thoughts and prayers for the safe return of your brother.

That would be awesome. Not ruling anything out and that would be at the top of my outcome list

Talk to a family law atty to see if there is any mechanism in California civil procedure to get an order to check bank records or credit card activity

Man, he’s got to be in either rehab or physically incapacitated. Has to be. Rehabs are very tight with their privacy but someone would have reached out to you by this point.

I wish you well in the search for your brother and hope for his safe return.
