BLM are activists against what they believe to be systemic racism and discriminatory treatment of black people by police. I don't necessarily agree with them or endorse their point of view, but these criticisms regarding the flood seem silly to me. Why would you expect them to raise money for flood victims, or for people displaced by fires in California, or tornado victims in Kansas?

There are tons of groups organized to help people who have suffered from natural disasters. Calling out BLM for not doing anything when this isn't even related to their cause just strikes me as silly.

I would be shocked if people who support BLM aren't donating to the Red Cross and other such charities. But I don't see why BLM would organize something for flood victims when this isn't part of their mission and they have no experience with disaster relief.

I think people hear "Black Lives Matter" and then make the connection that lives are at risk by the flood, therefore BLM should be helping? But if that's the reasoning, then it completely misses the point and the mission of BLM.

I say this as someone who is neutral with respect to BLM. But I gotta call out ridiculousness when I see it

Why would BLM show up to roads that are already blocked?

Well then wouldn't they be concerned about them now? Since you know the exact system put in place to hold them down is now responsible for helping them.

Your lack of ability to see the bigger picture is the most ridiculous thing in this discussion.

You have to see the hypocrisy?

In the same city a month ago they were marching and protesting over a criminal black guy THAT WAS ALREADY DEAD, and yet now when they could have SAVED INNOCENT BLACK PEOPLE FROM DYING they were nowhere to be found. They don't care about black people, they only care about themselves.

They really need to change their name to something more specific.

BLM movement is nothing more than thugs acting like thugs under the guise of helping out their fellow blacks. They could not care less about black folks, but they do care about stirring the pot and acting tough all while appearing as engaged in a higher purpose.

They fool no one.

I'm happy to see that some black folks are capable of seeing through the charade.

This flood doesn't help the agenda. Bottom line.

No they aren't.

If they were then they would be protesting actual events of black people being discriminated against. I haven't seen a single incident of that.

I agree is does seem silly for them to have BLM or Black Panthers boats out in the area right after the flood. Unless they have a local chapter or whatever.

But, they missed a great rallying point, come out and say something about the flood, talk about how you are going to help the black community. Use their popularity and notoriety to do something. Help get water, food, clothes, set up relief efforts.

They could go as far as saying they are only helping the black people bc they cannot count on the police, etc..

But nope, not a word..

have you actually looked to see if they have?

i was curious and just popped over to their facebook page and the last post is sharing an opportunity for LA families to go get free portraits to start replacing their lost keepsake photos.

im guessing a lot of the organizations and leaders involved have done things to encourage help (or help themselves), but it would be a little out of place for a defined and unrelated cause to go too deep into an event like this in an official way.

we are all complaining about the lack of media attention on the situation as a whole, but expect to have a specific, unrelated, subgroups participation reported to us? Or have you actually sought out those words on your own?

Black Lives Matter is one of the hottest topics in the country right now. I get they are set up for black vs the police and how unfairly they are treated by the police.

But this is a great opportunity for them to come out for the people they are claiming they are for.

Oh and I did search for anything about the Louisiana Flooding and I did not find anything about it. On their facebook page they have set something up to help people in La replace lost photos.
