quote:

While folks are more generous and there is merriment in the air, the choice of words is critical. You see, my family and I are Muslims. Christmas is not a holiday we celebrate. While it is nice to see the décor and lights, in some ways public spaces ought to be sensitive to different cultures and religions, especially if we don’t observe a holiday. Not doing so can feel coercive to many. There are only so many things we can opt out of without having a feeling of exclusion in the process.

I honestly think the most harm comes from how it's presented as this innocuous, almost secular tradition when its roots are so decidedly pagan," says Dr. Nuha Mulk, mother of a toddler girl.

I know of some places where they could go and not have to see Christmas decorations, like Pakistan, Iran, etc.

Imagine thinking you could go to Saudi Arabia and tell them to tone done the Mooslim stuff.

People take advantage of the US's generosity. Tell her to buzz off.

If you don't celebrate it, why do you care about its roots? It sounds like you need to mind your own damn business.

Finding one goober on the internet doesn’t mean it’s some movement with any meaning.

Hell, imagine the shite you'd get by telling her to tone down the Muslim stuff here in the US.

She should see what Abu Dhabi and Dubai look like around Christmas. Puts Times Square to shame. They do it up right, with daily parades down the river with Santa Claus, reindeer Christmas music, etc. And those cities are both under Shariah Law.

If the Sunni's are cool with it, this stupid bitch should be too, especially in WhiteChristiantown USA.

ETA- Crosses and Silent Night or actual depictions of Jesus, not so much. But the pagan parts of it, they are all-in.

I guess it depends on the decor. If its santa and snow and trees and toys then yea shes fricking ridiculous

If its a manger set up with angels and everything at a city courthouse or at a public school then I get her frustration

So you're telling me that they have a Christmas tree set up in the city square of Baghdad?

I'm sure she likes the 4th though, all of the explosions probably remind her of home.
