Musk does not have the authority to fire any government employee.
All he does is point out waste and corruption.
It is the job of the national park service to decide who gets fired.

They didn't fire every park ranger. They terminated probationary (i.e., under 1 year of federal service) employees.
It's happened across the government. Very unceremoniously at that. People showed up to work yesterday morning, opened their e-mails, and boom...fired.
My BIL was unfortunately one of them. Hardworking kid that gave up a pretty decent (albeit limited) position to take a position with more potential to grow, and just like that, he's out of a job.
They were the easiest targets for a quick reduction. Meanwhile, useless employees still have a job simply because they are harder to fire due to years of service.
However, Reduction In Force is coming soon. This is going to hit alot of people very quickly. And believe it or not, some good, hardworking people are going to be out on their arse for no other reason than they are federal employees. Government is bloated, no doubt, but getting rid of people based on years of service is just bad practice, public or private.
