African strains' aggression would backfire. Reason is: they survived mammal attacks more often than more docile strains before beekeeping was thing. They use their stringers for this. Those giant hornets' chitinous armor is too thick for their barbs to penetrate. But that's what behavior traits cause.

Japanese Honey Bees reaction is drastically different. The workers legitimately treat the hornets as royalty; by disposing of them as if they were queens too far past their prime. Same execution process.

If you want a good general purpose stock; you'd want Carnolia dominant hybrids with Siberian mixed in for cold resistance, African mixed in for brood size and Japanese could bring in the anti-hornet behavioral defense.

Or maybe somebody figures out how to train bees to use that technique. I'd imagine it's not strictly instincts. Pheromones from the queen might play a part. That would make things much simpler; as an artificial pheromone could be used to trigger common bee strains to switch to the more effective attack without needing to wait for years of selective breeding.
