One car ended up on the actual sidewalk
Holy shite. There's no reason anyone should be driving fast enough right there to make that happen.

BRZ uploaded a video showing the scene
Judging from the photo and video, the Nissan Maxima by the light pole was T-Boned and propelled into the corner where it rests.
It's highly likely the victims weren't even in the crosswalk

When I was there last weekend, cars would speed up a shite ton when they had open road in front of them. Even with a bunch of students on the sidewalks and shite, I don't see how anyone can go that fast with people that close to you.

Ohhh that was a good one. Let me right it down so I remember.

100% chance this was avoidable if everyone was paying attention
with so many victims, your odds may be slim. give up.

Still they should have seen the car accident coming and moved out of the way... completely avoidable.

They actually should have never left the house. Totally avoidable if you never get out of bed.

On highland the speed limit is a little high if we're being honest

Hell no... I'm gonna laugh at their misfortune on a message board.

I don't know what happened, but with LSU expanding more and more West of Nicholson and with Nicholson being a state highway; the chance of these accidents becomes greater.
The highway should have been relocated along the levee years ago, but we never have the money. The Gateway project, student parking and the new Box made things much worse.

Going to put a bridge at every intersection? You have any idea how much that would cost?
Probably less than the lawsuit they might have to settle. It’s not a bad idea. That intersection is horrible. I’ve almost been run over there a couple of times once by a bus

The whole damn campus is a risk manager's nightmare
125year old steam pipes prone to exploding
Old terribly maintained buildings
two high volume roads cutting through central campus
young drivers, inattentive pedestrians
cats and dogs living together... it's a fiasco out there

I was given shite in this thread for saying the university and the city need to improve the crosswalk. Looking at the pictures, there is still a ton that could be done to make it safer.
The improvements may not have prevented what occurred with someone flying down the street running a red light, but could have lessened the effects.
The crosswalks should be much wider with the stopping point for the red light further back from the intersection (wouldn't have helped in this case).
There could be stone pillars around the space where the pedestrians wait to cross (potentially could have helped).
That's just two things. There are others.
