I wouldn’t have thought it would be plausible for a motorcycle to cause a fatality onto someone in a car.
Happens more than you think.
If you have a 450lb bike with a 200lb rider flying at 100mph, it’s going through a car door, and the bike rider probably goes straight into the window.

This is one of my Worst fears pulling up on a Motorcycle Accident and what my eyes might see. Hats off to first responders and what they have to try and suppress nightly just to go to sleep.

if/when the driver making a left turn has green.
On green arrow it is protected. Oncoming traffic has a red light.
On a green light where you can turn left, if there is no arrow, you turn at your own risk.

Yeah, thats the same thing I said. I am only pointing out that there is either a contradiction somewhere regarding the term protected green light / protected turn or there was a light malfunction giving both drivers greens and her the protected green which would be incredibly dangerous but unlikely.
I do not think the light to turn left on to S Quad has a permitted light at all, only the arrow so either the report is wrong that both drivers had green (and she was permitted not protected) or there was a light malfunction.

My daughter knew the motorcycle driver. It was not his bike. Borrowed from a friend…. Tragic.
What a terrible situation

Signals have a fail safe. This can never happen. Any malfunction produces all red.

Glad you acknowledge their service. Everyone that works in emergency response goes through sleepless nights. For me, it was children.

Made myself watch the video again this morning. Paid more attention to the left side of the screen(which had the lights for the girls direction of travel). The girl/car definitely had red arrows for her turn lanes and the bike had green lights. The way the brother describes it makes sense though. The car eases up to the light. Starts to go, then hesitates a bit, and then turns. You can hear the bike for a second or so before the impact. Impact almost flips the car, and they both burst into flames immediately.

This happens a lot on a bike, people tend to want to let you go, but are so indecisive at the same time. He probably saw the car stop and mashed the gas to slide through, car ran the light and boom. Car had to have seen him, they stopped mid intersection.

but you can’t turn on a red arrow regardless

I didn’t realize street name changed (haven’t been on campus in awhile) and don’t get reasoning behind using South Quad right there. Is there a North Quad street or road somewhere around LSU?
They’re building a new south quad hence the renaming of the road.

this is never supposed to happen...if the northbound through lanes had a green light, the left turn lane on the southbound side should not have green also...
Not necessarily. Have not seen this intersection in years but if she is in left hand turn lane she could have solid Green (not arrow) and still have to yield to north bound traffic.
Does the light sequence change after a certain time of day?
Often times late at night the turning lane red would not be a red since there’s very little traffic

Unless something has changed, I don’t believe that light has a protected and permitted left turn option. It’s either going to be red, yellow Or a green arrow. My daughter and I talk about this frequently because we have a left turn permitted light on our way home from her school. I really wish they would just get away with it all together and allow a left turn on red with a stop rather than the confusion of drivers differentiating between a protected and Permitted left turn

Double left turn lanes are almost always protected only. There are some exceptions but not on LA DOTD Highways like Nicholson (LA 30) or in EBR. If there was a signal malfunction, there is a conflict monitor in all traffic signal cabinets that would have put the signal into a flashing operation.

Just look at how he crushed the passenger side of the car. No way he did that much damage unless he was flying through the interesection.
I’m not sure of the speed limit around there, can’t be more than 40 at most going into campus. That guy was going a minimum of 75-80, probably faster. To cause that kinda impact and kill a driver on a passenger side hit and burst into flames. If he was driving a normal speed, he probably still dies but not the girl.
Sounds like he sped up going into an intersection instead of slowing down.

Almost but not always. St Tammany (Hwy 190) has quite a few double left turn lanes where the right lane has a permitted left turn (on red).
Again though, it's getting further and further from the point that was originally mentioned that both motorists had green. This doesn't appear to be a permitted vs protected issue as one of them would not have had a green light,

The straight lanes had green for the direction of the travel of the young lady. The two turn lanes(upon further looking into video) definitely looked to have red arrows.
