I opened up a company wide email this morning stating that one of our founders and his wife were in the pile up. Theyre both in the hospital with critical injuries.

That is a friend of mine. He is ok, and honestly looks like he was lucky with how the rest of the vehicles near him fared.

How his truck fared! Driver's side down in a couple or three feet of swamp water, after falling 25' or 30', after being in that huge arse collision.

I'm glad he's okay. He might want to buy a lottery ticket because he's one lucky bastard.

What a horrible event, prayers to all involved.

And to the idiots here who think driving slower is bad, nearly every fatal interstate crash is caused by people speeding/driving too fast for the road conditions. Speed kills in car crashes.

There is a reason why they do 25 mph convoys on the Causeway in bad weather/fog, its almost impossible to have a crash with significant injuries at that speed. Its inconvenient and slow, and frankly sucks, but it works.

Yep.

Some people that never experienced a car crash feel they are invincible because they are in a metal vehicle.

Yikes..heard from a coworkers son in law who’s a firefighter. They had a car where all they found was a foot. Almost like the body disintegrated from the heat of the fire.

Don’t matter if you are doing 60 or 80 you will get same result when someone brakes hard or gets clipped in tense fog. Perfect example The Big One in NASCAR. Though it’s not foggy you get the idea how the domino effect works.

Livingston Parish with the NASCAR science. This case is closed.

I would not mind if LSP actually started pulling over more people (mainly on I-12 & I-10) and implementing adjustable speed limit signs on I-55. That bridge always gave me the heebie-jeebies.

Yes and no. What you are saying is correct, but in order for it to stay correct the rest of the vehicles on the road need to be driving at a slow speed. If there is no law requiring everyone to go 35 and only one person is doing so, then those driving the speed limit will come upon him at the last minute and not be able to react.

There does need to be some sort of rule on these bridges that posts max speed at 35 or some sort in cases of severe weather. There also needs to be indicators so everyone is aware, and police need to be posted throughout the bridges. This way the majority of drivers will be at the same speed and the assholes will get ticketed.

Just let them sit at the multiple crossovers on I55

That sucks!
I have a daughter that is 20 and she travels up and down I-55 a decent amount. This kind of crap scares the hell out of me.
I sent her some of the articles and pictures last night as a reminder how bad things can be on that stretch of road and how careful she needs to be.

Going back to what I mentioned, adjustable speed limit signs. I'm pretty sure that's exactly why and what they have on the Mobile bridge.

You would think with a lot of the interstate traffic we have, I-10 between NOLA and Lafayette would have a lot more speed traps/LSP radaring down. But now, every time I'm on the interstate you have drug sniffers pulling over semi-trucks and people rubbernecking.

Side note: does I-55 have those monitors that hang above the roads on I-10/I-12 (Amber alert & cheesy DUI messages?)

I believe just one southbound right before the Ruddock exit that gives estimated travel time to the I-10 / I-55 interchange, 310 and Loyola exits (MSY airport access) along with Amber and safety messages.

I-55's and the Spillway's proximity to Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Maurepas create the same fog hazard conditions as the Causeway experiences this time of year. Arrows show the I-55 accident's location near Manchac.

It’s as simple as not driving faster than you can see. Been running in fog all my life.

I don't know how helpful that is when the speed demons consistently overestimate their driving abilities and reaction speed. They don't know their limitations until it's too late.
