MSY New terminal is a design failure and we should open one concourse at the old terminal

I have been at least a dozen times to the new terminal either traveling myself or picking up or dropping off travelers. The experience has never been as easy as the old terminal either flying myself or in dropping off or picking up other travelers.
The traffic flow for the new terminal on the terminal grounds only works on the lightest of traffic days. Friday night the round about was closed by the cell phone lot so those of us coming out of short term parking were directed down the road by the terminal beyond long term parking and then made to U-turn to come up the same road to the interstate. Those coming into the terminal pick up and drop off lines were forced to wait in a huge line. It was a cluster.
Now the state plans to spend hundreds of millions on a fly over we do not need. The traffic issues are not on the public roads---they on the terminal roads that are clearly inadequate. It is not like they didn't know how much traffic they would be dealing with.
We are now spending millions to handle car rental buses that were not needed at the old terminal. The baggage handling is no better and frequently inoperable in one way or another.
We should renovate and open terminal B on the old building. (Give it to Southwest or Delta) We can then use airline highway the approach from Williams again. We can use the old parking lots easier. This would take a lot of traffic off of the inadequate roads at the new terminal.
We can cancel the contract for the interstate flyover and move forward.
We would have lots of room for expansion. Flying would be much easier for locals and tourist.
It's time to admit we made huge design flaws and make the best of it.

“Hey! Let’s make people walking to the parking garage have to cross the pickup lanes!”

Your takes are always terrible
I've been through it 4 times total and it never took me longer than 30 min from exiting I-10 to being at my gate.
Eta: that's getting and returning a rental car

Thunberg will soon be Secretary General of the World and jet travel will have been outlawed.
You worry too much.

I’ve flown in and out a few times since the change.
No issues from me whatsoever.

A half hour on terminal roads and buses is ok with you???
At that old terminal I could park at US Park and be standing at the gate in 15 minutes easily.
Why now do support tearing down an asset? Why not use it?

I disagree with the original posters assessment, but no way you are at your gate 30 minutes from exiting interstate and returning a rental car.

I've said this from the beginning and it's been my primary gripe. How the frick could they not plan a separate entrance/exit for drop-offs and pick-ups? Having them share the same entrance/exit is mind-numbingly stupid. Adding a fly-over will be fairly irrelevant unless it addresses this glaring flaw.

What has been your experience when the round about is closed or being throttled by policemen?
At least 4 times I have been through there and that was the case.
If that is ok with you guys can I get you to drop and pick up folks for me?

Some of y’all are very lucky apparently. I’ve found the new terminal to be a complete
Sh-t show.
Sh-t show.

Are there plans to add restaurants or coffee shops in the pre-security area?
If you get there early to pick someone up or maybe their flight is delayed you are stuck in a huge room with absolutely nothing to do. A place to sit down and have a beer or cup of coffee would be nice. Even BTR has this.

I’ve never heard of so many mixed reviews about an airport. It’s not a movie or a restaurant. Why are the opinions of this new terminal all over the place?

OP is dead-on regarding the design flaws. And the flaws are so fundamental that no amount of signage or lane additions can fix it. The traffic flow and extremely limited options to improve it make the entire airport road system look like it was designed by a 10 year old Hot Wheels collector.

There are more than a few people in New Orleans that profited from it's construction.
