MSRP vs Dealer Best Offer

Richards Honda has a Vehicle at $3000 below MSRP as their dealer pricing best offer via email. Haven't even stepped on the lot yet but at about 8% that looks like a good average price per True Car. How much lower should I be able to get you think? 2017 model.

2017 is almost over
i'd expect more than 3k, but it depends on what vehicle it is

MSRP means nothing, and there are a LOT of factors involved. Is this a popular model that everyone is looking for?
I don't think Honda has anything 2017 model that really would qualify, so we'll say no.
Realistically you should not pay more than 5% over the Dealer's true cost.
That is invoice price (not MSRP but Dealer's invoice) - Dealer holdback - manufacturer to dealer incentive
Here's actually a pretty good site that explains it

You got a crystal ball? Unless the owner of the dealership or the guy who wrote the check tells you the dealer cost, then there is no way to know what they are paying. Even still I doubt I would believe them, they all lie. I would have to see the check with my own eyes.
So realistically you should only pay what you feel the car is worth.
I'll go ahead and sit back and let all the sales lot trash warm up their downvote buttons. At least one will chime in claiming to know how much a dealer pays for their inventory.

Do your research and make the lowest reasonable offer you can think of. The worst they can tell you is no (which I'm sure they will). At that point ask for a counter. At that point you can at least set a bracket and start to work towards a middle ground. Remember, never be afraid to walk away. You are the one potentially giving THEM money, not the other way around. Make them turn down that sale/money

MOST dealers will show you their dealer invoice. The tricky part is figuring out what hold backs and manufacturer incentives the dealer is getting off that invoice so you can make a real offer. The link I provided earlier goes into much further detail.

No business is going to show customers their overhead costs. It's not happening. You're welcome to believe it all you want if it makes you feel better.

You honestly have no idea what you are talking about. Of course dealers will show you the dealer invoice if you ask, that's what their entire selling paradigm is based on. They have an MSRP and then they have a dealer invoice, and they hope that most people know what the figure is for both and will pay somewhere in between not realizing that dealer invoice =/= true dealer cost.
THAT is the part dealers don't want you to know about. How much THEY get off of that dealer invoice.
Do you really not understand that? Do you not realize that any dealership would sell cars for 5% above dealer invoice all day long and be thrilled if at the same time they avoided selling any for 5% above true cost?

Yeah I'm stupid, that's why the link I provided earlier from Edumnds stated exactly what I have stated . You should expect to pay 3-5% over dealer true cost , expect for particularly popular models where there may be a premium due to demand. Now , how could you be expected to pay 3-5% over true cost unless you KNEW true cost, you dumb shite?
Go to your local dealer and ask for a dealer invoice on a model you are looking at, odds are great that they will give it to you.
See, I use facts to make a case, you use I don't know what you use. But it isn't logic.

I'm pretty sure that is what he just said in his post.

What? Not hardly he's arguing that a dealer won't show you their invoice and that you should pay whatever the car is worth to you.
Your point makes zero sense.

They will show you whatever you want to see, if it makes you buy a car. The big question is, do you believe what the sales guy is telling you? If yes, then I hope you' are happy with your purchase. I'm done here.

Be sure to finance it for 80 months at 1.9% and use the savings to put your kid through college.

Also, if the car has been on their lot for better than 90 days, they've likely eaten up hold back thru floor plan interest payments .

I would expect about 7% off 2018 and at least 10% off a 2017. Google the Honda forums and you'll get what kind of deals buyers are currently getting.

Here is a pretty recent 5 part article on the current state of dealer pricing , what invoice price is and is not, dealer holdbacks, incentives and more current methods used by dealers to profit on a car even when selling below invoice.
