If you're in your 20s and can't find a good 2/3 BR apartment to share for $1500/mo each in an area packed with other young people like East Williamsburg/Ridgewood etc you really don't have the savvy to make it in NYC anyway.

It’s a fantastic thing to do.

Most people here are terrified to go anywhere other than pigeon forge for a week so maybe not the best group to ask.

She should do it. It will teach her a lot about the world. She can try for as long as she wants. If it doesn’t work out she can always relocate somewhere else and try again. That’s the beauty of this country and life in general.

People in this state are largely afraid of change.

Know a girl that did it. I say this in the nicest way possible, but she did it the hard way for a while then married into a nice Jewish family. She's in Connecticut now.

Something my Trump voting, 70 year old father would say….

The ironic part of that is we just went to NYC for a few days this past August and he loved it. He was even saying before we went that “they’re about to elect that mayor…..”

After we boarded the plane to come home, I told him, “Funny how when you actually show up somewhere and see what it’s like for yourself, that algorithm on your phone is about as trustworthy as internet trolls”

Entertainment industry?

What are her nepotism connections?

Remember Regis Philbin? His daughter got a job behind the scenes at Saturay Night Live as a ????writer. Based on no experience.
How did an Obama daughter get a job working with Harvey Weinstein? How did assorted presidential daughters get jobs with the Today show?

Want to join a Union? Nepotism is also important there or ethnic connections.

Yes. Needed extra parent support for a lot longer than they expected. Ended up leaving NYC to get to a better point. Similar idea of being in media production though

Edit: not me, a cousin of mine

She should do it but if she wants to live well

Plan on 2000 a month for an apartment.

Yes, you can do it if you get a three bedroom with two roommates. Plenty of three bedrooms for 6000 a month. (Might have to pay a bit extra for cable tv etc).

Just googling saw this, again this is a three bedroom -

Or you can live alone in a place like Jersey City which is an easy trip right across the river.

Here is literally the first thing that comes up when I googled -

LINK

And finally you can live alone and in the city proper just not in one of the hip neighborhoods but someplace like Bensonhurst. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, but not the best if you want to go out every Friday Night to thee "hottest place in town".

She should do it.

Sandy Point would be a cool. place, you can see the Manhattan skyline from there but it's like being in a small New England seaside town, but the young'n's are wanting to be closer to the action

Your 20’s is the time to swing big. Also, don’t chase film incentive money, NY/NJ is a solid move right now. It’s also a good spot to fast track your way to producing if that’s the career track they want.

Jim Jarmusch’s producer is a young kid that graduated from Baton Rouge High.

There’s some saying about if you can make it there…

Edit: you guys should also be happy a chunk of the Lucy’s comedy night crew (including Mark Norman, Theo, and Sean Patton) moved there in the late 2000’s. That worked out pretty well.

You’re right. Safer to stay in Baton Rouge where there’s no chance of being the victim of violent crime.

Disqualifying.

I moved without any help in my 20s. Sold everything I owned, packed a car and left.

Kids today have it too easy.
