I don't know, many used to think San Francisco and New York City were great cities, but those two led the nation in population loss in the last year. Then again, maybe they aren't great cities anymore thanks to certain policies, etc.

I agree with your general point though. New Orleans has great aspects for sure that are totally unique and enjoyable. Its reputation is built on those aspects that visitors and locals enjoy so much. But there are large portions of New Orleans that are awful. And just because they aren't on the postcards doesn't mean they don't exist There are many shitty things about New Orelans.

I don’t blame you one bit, but be forewarned, Denver is heading in the same direction. I’ve been to Denver, and the whole front range, about 6 times this year for work. I work with all blue collar folks and they’re concerned over all the California folks moving in and making it even more liberal than it already was.

OP, don’t be fooled by the weed smoke and mirrors of CO tourism ads and your random trip for a day or two here and there. Been here over 15 years. Nothing like it used to be even 10 years ago. It’s becoming (or already has become) San Fran east. Homeless (and their trash/poop/camps) everywhere thanks to the liberal blue wave that has taken over the state house and city hall. Violent and non-violent crime is way up, shootings downtown every weekend. Traffic is awful, population outgrew the freeway system years ago. The brown cloud is real these days. We’re now in the top 5 most expensive cities to live in. Average single family home in the metro area is around $700k, anything less than $600 is an old POS needing a lot of work and updating. Be prepared for all of this.

These sentences are contradictory. Some things about New Orleans are great, yes. But in the aggregate, no, there are too many negatives among very important criteria, like infrastructure and crime, to call it a great city.
THIS. Those people who ignore all its' issues and say "aT lEaSt wE hAvE cUlTuRe" are just coping at this point. It's objectively a terrible place when compared to 90% of the places in this country (and even some foreign cities).

Smog. EPA is downgrading us from serious to severe violator of Federal air quality standards.

There’s plenty of days you cant even see the mountains that are a 20 min drive away.

Great cities will never make you "give-up" on them.

Too many people love New Orleans what for it was or what they hope it will be. They irrationally judge it by it's best days and not it's worst or all the days in the middle.

Even on an avg day and not looking at the worst days.....the infrastructure sucks, the schools are horrible, property tax is ridiculous, homeowners and automobile insurance is incredibly high, commercial real estate is over priced, public transportation is an absolute joke, first responders are horribly under staffed, the mayors office is incompetent, the city council is corrupt, only 27% of residents have a bachelors degree and STILL hovers around 80% of pre-Katrina population because once people leave, they see the shite-hole it really is.

You mean I can live somewhere else and only travel in for the best days, pay less, make more, get more for my tax dollars and better situate my family for success? Um, yeah.

It’s a great city to visit. Not live. Born and raised in NOLA but left 10 years ago. I love it so much more now than when I lived there

And I will not be moving back anytime soon if ever.

If you want to own a house, Denver is extremely unaffordable in that area. I've loved my time here, but wanting to own a house has me making tough decisions.

Gf and I make over 200 combined and we had massive issues trying to buy a house.

Make sure you have a hip and cool SUV that can tote all your outdoor equipment for all to see. Also better have a serious pile of dough for rent/house payment. Denver ain’t frickin around with housing costs.

Whenever I get homesick I go back to NOLA. Then I realize it’s not the same city I knew and loved and can’t wait to get out again.

That is plenty of money earned to afford an expensive house. What exactly is your issue?
