Its an awesome thing. Ca people are buying expensive property.

Places with expensive real estate in mountain areas are usually bat shite crazy.

Utah is on my list. I need to visit Idaho and Montana, but as others have mentioned, I'm afraid Montana might be too cold for me.

Kalispell averages 50" of snow, which is not a lot for that latitude. Average highs in Dec are around freezing, lows mid teens.

You'll have a warmer winter there than much of the Midwest.

My dad has had a place in that area of Montana for some time. He's been up there since real estate was quite a bit lower though and he's outside of town.

Montana made a lot of sense when it was cheap. You get all the natural beauty and left alone in exchange for dealing with cold winters.

But with prices being so high.. no thanks.

very good. just from a (brief) google there have been 30 grizzly attacks in Montana over the past 10 years in a population of 1.09 million. New Orleans population is 390,000 and I could imagine they hit 30 people shot already this year. Same with Baton Rouge.

A lot of people shifted to Idaho, now housing there is through the roof.

You can still find affordable places, just not a lot of them in Bozeman or Missoula. I suppose anywhere scenic.

It's going to get to a point where all of the nice places in the country are unaffordable for the middle class.
