Part of the deal is that people down here can’t fricking drive in good conditions.

Months of snow and ice would mean I may as well drive a bumper car.

Montana is overrated because it is too wild, too desolate, and too far away from anything. I'd much rather live in the Ozarks or Tennessee than Montana if I had to choose.

Personally, I'm more of a Minnesota or Wisconsin type. I'd love to move there (from South Dakota, so not much of a stretch) but have too many roots here to leave now.

it's easy to scoff at but you can do really, really well for the money

for what it takes to buy a normal middle class house in bozeman, you could buy 80 acres on a river (maybe a pond or two too) and a big house in MN/WI/MI

I already live in the middle of nowhere according to most Americans (South Dakota) and even I think Montana is in the middle of nowhere and far from anything.

The country gets very, very large west of the Missouri River.

For Bozeman money you can get waterfront property in the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin depending on the lake or river.

What part of South Dakota?

My mother grew up in Dallas County, Colome/Winner area.

Had relatives that owned a log cabin type motel in Keystone. Loved the Badlands, especially the Needle.

Way too damn cold though LOL

So why did Bozeman become the hot city in Montana?

It gets more snowfall and is slightly colder than the other cities in Montana.

Did Market Equities build ski resorts there? Is it proximity to Yellowstone?

Butte, Great Falls and Helena are way more affordable than Bozeman.

Lived in SLC for 20 years before moving down to AZ. I'm still close to Flag and Sedona and I've been back up to Utah several times. Just didn't want to live in the winter temps any longer.

I know what you mean. We have a getaway in the Heber Valley. It’s at 5400 feet, so it’s not as cool as PC/DV, but it’s still a great summer escape. I get asked a lot if we’re going to retire there. I would not leave family anyway, but I also would not live there through the winter. What are the summertime high/lows where you are?
