You’d want your kids getting a worthless degree?

ULL has a decent IS program through its School of Computing & Informatics.

I think that's one of about 4 she's considering.

I started out as an electrical engineering major. I think figuring it out freshman year is fine for a lot of kids. You're not really into your core curriculum much anyway as a freshman.

Totally depends on the major

LSU is the better choice for most majors

Unless you’re a helicopter parent

Been some years but when I was at LSU everyone said the computer science department at ULL was better than LSUs

IS was about the same

My sister makes bank at Dow after graduating from ULL in ISDS

We already know Paul Allen is one of them. Just waiting for the "why haven't you moved out of Baton Rouge yet"

I agree with you and I love LSU. I think she more wanted to move away and experience living away from home on her own. She grew up 8 miles from LSU.

One of the first to graduate from there with a degree in this. We had like 6 people with a degree in this at graduation.

I managed to find myself in a rather unique employment situation in the past few years and in a positive way. I'd be an absolute moron to walk away from this right now.

Congrats. You're a successful parent.

Peeve of mine is congratulating parents when the baby is expected. Having a baby is easy. Raising a child takes effort. Congrats is in order when the work is done. Not before.

A lot of negative comments about LSU. What's happened with the school?

IS opens up a ton of doors. You don't have to be a SDE, get the degree, possibly add a few certs within a specialization, start with Python for automation and scripting, build a GitHub portfolio to show case hands on experience prior to interviewing. With cloud computing expanding more than ever, gain one to two years of practical work experience, and you're career will skyrocket.

After these years…I remember you saying eight years ago that when this happens you were going to move somewhere out of state?

Yeah fallguy, weren’t you only living in BR bc of your kids’ schools? Now you can escape

I was gonna ask when you were planning on getting out of BR. I think we live pretty close to one another and I've seen you mention before about moving once the kids got out of school. I have two more years. I ready to get out of BR. Doesn't have to be far.

About 6-8 years of full blown woke recruitment, test optional, urban focused DEI tactics. Fortunately, that whole crew except for one who is no longer involved in admission recruitment is gone. Test requirements will return next year and the current administration has been told to focus on state first. A huge change!

Edit to say…the negativity is way over blown. It’s in BR…true but it’s not as bad as the rant claims.

She's not sure yet. I told her just to go figure it out her freshman year. I think it's totally normal for an 18 yr old to not know yet what they want to do with the rest of their life.

We all know how this goes.

She'll party for 4 years and graduate with a worthless degree.
She'll move back home and work at Starbucks.
You'll complain that you blew 100k for nothing.
Your wife will tell you that it was a good experience, even if the degree is worthless.
She'll find some sucker that majored in Computer Science/Engineering/Medicine etc. to marry her and pay her bills.

A tale as old as time

I am right there with you fallguy_1978. I moved my youngest to college last week - the nest is empty. The house is eerily quiet.
