Whew... I thought you were talking about the U Club Cottages Brightside at River Road. That place was nothing but outstanding. Expensive but outstanding.
And yes I'm one of those parents that paid for everything for 4 years including car, gas, insurance, food, and $700+ month rent. I admit my daughter had it good but after spending $8k per year in high school tuition, LSU was a bargain.

What kind of fricking parent pays for their kid to live in off-campus housing?
Probably 90% of the parents whose kids live off campus. None of my friends paid their own rent the six years I was there.

I like what I did:
Dorm freshman year
On Campus Apt sophomore year
House junior/senior year and stayed in the same house while I was working and roommates went to grad school.

If I had tried to live off campus, my parents would have laughed their arse off. The only reason they helped me get a dorm was because I had full tops.

You spent 4+ years on campus at LSU?

I'm pretty sure I know your son that moved in to the cottages, saw a Facebook post very similar to this with him tagged in it.

I am 36, make over 6 figures and can work from anywhere. I have often thought about leasing an apartment in a place like that for a semester.

when the cottages were built = fall 2010.
summer 2011 was a shite show. people were still moving in. i know my buddies apartment walls saw more sex, smell of marijuana, alcohol, and shite shows than probably most, if not all apartments with only 2 of the 3 rooms open. (that includes closets). i know the people above were on a marijuana binge and since all the AC ducts are shared we could smell that shite every time they opened a bag. i think they also burned their kitchen.
i can only imagine what they look like 3 years later. f living there unless its a house

Why would you pay for your child to live in an overpriced PoS?
I live 10 minutes from campus and pay $200+ less.

Cool

How the frick does this even fit into the thread besides you bragging?
What would an extra college apartment do for you considering you're 36, an alcoholic, and spend most nights and every weekend night at home posting on here.

I think you might have a little too high of expecations for a college apartment. They are only nice for a few years, then drunken college students destroy them. They are not going to be as nice as your house, even if that was the original intention. I've watched an otherwise mild mannered guy put his head through sheetrock because he was drunk and it was funny. Shitty apartments are just part of college life. You're paying for your kid to live in the popular place. Not the nice apartment.

My son had similar problems at Burbank Commons. No A/C, ripped-up sofa, and just "move-in ready."

Now that she's out of high school ...

FYI, when I moved during college my parents would come clean the room a little more. Unfortunately the move-out maids just give it a vacuum and a once-over, so it's pretty common for the new resident to want to wipe it down a little extra.
You can always buy a Rabbit air filter system. They're like $400 and last a lifetime. If worried about mold, a dehumidifier is $150 and also lasts forever.
