This has been a problem. Parents act like complete assholes.

Last week at my nephew's game an ump who was supposed to work a game didn't show up so they had one ump who was calling the game behind the pitchers mound. Parents were getting all worked up and I am just thinking "this dude, who isn't a professional ump, is calling the whole game by himself so sit down, shut the frick up. Your 9 year old's life will not be over if he sticks out on a bad call".

But they should make an example out this bitch.

I umpire for my local parks and rec. 8, 10, & 12U softball. I do the games by myself because they can't find anyone else. I don't need the money, I do it because I played and coached youth sports, as did my kids, and I know the difficulty in finding good umpires and coaches. This will be my last year. The culture of being disrespectful and abusive to umpires isn't just white trash and rednecks. It's pretty much everyone. I had a police officer threaten me over a call Saturday that was inconsequential in every way. I used to consider it being a good citizen and helping out the community, but now it seems like a waste of my time to subject myself to that sort of BS when I don't need to.

When there are no umpires due to abuse, only then will those a-hole parents change their tune. And even then some will probably blame the umps.

I officiated baseball to Williamsport. Officiated football to Bethune Cookman. The reason I quit baseball. I sat down for lunch and told the other inside sales guy at the office. "I did what I always said wouldn't do." "She was so loud and so obnoxious, I finally gave in. In between innings, mask in hand I went into the stands and sat down right beside her. Ordered the batter into the box and told the pitcher to pitch. STRIKE ! Outside, Ball. STRIKE!. Looked at her and said. I think that's your son at bat ....you are right, it's easier up here. Want me to stay?" Everyone around us said "No"
"Think, I'll go back behind the plate and finish. By the way, next week I'll be at Williamsport. We'll see how they like me up there." She didn't say a word the rest of the game. "I told Jim, I've had enough. I want to officiate football." Jim said "Good, Clearwater High School, Monday night at 6. Tell Gene I sent you."

I never heard of identifying people's behavior based on their political views until I see it done on this board.
