Ketoacidosis is a metabolic state caused by uncontrolled production of ketone bodies that cause a metabolic acidosis. While ketosis refers to any elevation of blood ketones, ketoacidosis is a specific pathologic condition that results in changes in blood pH and requires medical attention. The most common cause of ketoacidosis is diabetic ketoacidosis but can also be caused by alcohol, medications, toxins, and rarely starvation.

So the frick what!
We're in the United States...we don't fricking not feed prisoners for days at a time, nor do we not give medical attention to those who clearly need it.
How fricking low have our standards dropped in this country?
Easy Slim. I didn’t say it was justified treatment I was just pointing out that the stated cause of death seemed suspect. People can go 30 days w/o food so I find it suspect that the article claims starvation from 5 days. Or maybe you just believe as fact whatever you read on the interwebs?

SCORE personnel repeatedly observed and noted that she had mental health and physical problems but did nothing in four days to treat her, the suit says. Rodriguez was observed vomiting, stumbling in circles, grabbing her genitalia, spinning in circles, lying on her face, throwing food and displaying other erratic behavior, but she was never attended to, it says.
Kinda hard to throw food if you aren't given any

Bull shite. If they act like animals, treat them
Like animals.
I’m not the least bit interested in tending to the medical needs or mental issues of some POS that hurts a child or brutalizes a woman. frick em, let them rot.

Nope, but that isn't an attention getter headline without something made up.

they claim she was wrongly arrested.
99% of people with family that was arrested claim they were "wrongly arrested".
I also like it when they say "an unarmed man was shot". . . as if an unarmed man can't pose a threat. Generally no further context is given around the "unarmed" label in an article.

Oh noooz!! You are so outraged! So outraged that you glossed over the part where she was throwing food.

You don’t die from not eating for 5 days.
A healthy human can live for 20-30 days without food as long as you have water

I’m sure this article is filled with truth

This doesn't look good at face value.
I know. It looks like the super bowl half time show.
I kid. This jail is going to get sued and lose their arse, as they should

The headline got the desired emotional reaction it wanted. Was she starved or did she not eat?
Reading quotes from the article is apparent that it wasn’t the not eating that killed her, it was the not admitting her to the hospital or giving her medical care after she vomited.
As I said in a previous post, the jail will get sued and lose their arse

The frick does this straw man have to do with this woman who died?
quote:
Gil told deputies that his wife was "responding to voices in her head, becoming abnormally agitated, experiencing extreme anxiety and paranoia" and needed "to be seen by a mental health facility," but the deputies assumed they were responding to a domestic violence incident, and, instead of securing medical treatment, they arrested her and took her to SCORE.
Wonderful assessment by the police.

Instead, in response to Rodriguez's insatiable thirst, jail staff moved her to a cell with no sink, the suit says. They covered the window so they wouldn't have to look at her, and they put towels in front of her door so that her vomit wouldn't leak into the hallway, the suit alleges.

Police are not qualified to asses who needs mental/medical attention. That’s the job of medical/mental professionals.
When this guy called 911, did he let them know she was crazy or did he say she was attacking?

I mean, if they can prove that actually happened, that's obviously very terrible.
I'd like to think that is exaggerated, but the world is pretty shitty.
