Honestly we had great nurses so I didn't really do much, I wouldn't have wanted my Mil there but if she was I could have been having a 6 pack on the recliner while it went down. I wouldn't suggest that though...

Sounds like an easy out for you. MIL takes care of the wife and you go fishing.
Win win.

Nothing wrong with that request.

You better set the precedent early. If you allow this than your MIL is going to be involved in every aspect of your family's life. Law down the law. This is you and your wife's child, not your mother-in-law's

So the MIL can poison your marriage by saying in your absence, "I can't believe he's not here. Really shows where his priorities are. I told you to marry Stephen, and he's going to be a doctor."

Tell your wife only if she is present during conception.

For a very long time it was the father that wasn't allowed. Even in midwife times. Mothers were there most every time. It's only recent history that this is a private and personal experience for a couple. Let women help the women. Maybe they have a comfy chair for you to sit in.

I’d be pretty annoyed/pissed. But I also wouldn’t have married a grown woman so close to her mother that she’d want her in the room while giving birth. Enjoy capitulating To just about everything moving forward.

See, this is the right idea. Have her mother in the room as a replacement for you.
You sit out in the waiting room smoking a cigar, or hang out in the parking lot doing shots.

My MIL was there for all 3 deliveries, all C-sections. Made my wife really happy. You really don't get an opinion on the matter, they just let you think you have an opinion. It didn't bother me because I have the greatest MIL on the face of the Earth.

My MIL tries to interject into everything. Before we went wife and I agreed it would be a special time for me and her, so we relayed that to the family. Half way through labor, her mom tried to come barging in playing dumb like she thought it was already over or something. "Seriously?! You have to go, I'll come get you when we're done!" Is what I said, but I already don't really like her,so I wasn't worried about her feelings

Give your wife what she wants. She earned it for having sex with you one time

Skipping your kid's birth is trashy AF, baw.

No. You will be glad she's there when you have no clue what to do.

Why would a wife want anyone but her husband in the delivery room to begin with? Two people conceived that child, two people will raise it. Seems like the wife has attachment issues.

This is bullshite. I didn't know what to do either but everything went fine. You figure it out.

Mine was there for both. Didn’t bother me. Whatever makes your wife the most comfortable. This might possibly be the most uncomfortable thing she ever does in her life.

My MIL was there. Who cares if she is there? Y’all are family forever now, son. Learn to deal with it.

Bunch of baws in this thread. It's the kids grandmother and what if people have great relationships with their MIL and want them in our life. Our's watched our first two a lot until they were 6 months old and we felt comfortable sending the kids to a day care.
My kids would jump on their scooter and bikes and run over to their grandmas house all the time growing up.
To this day, when we have a late night event, our 12 year old son wants to go sleep at the grand parents.

Such a stupid term and makes me think the person using it lives in a trailer park.
