I completely disagree. I realize a lot of critics of the genre when it was in its infancy used this as an argument against rock, but there was very little validity to it. Hip Hop actually promotes a culture of unhealthy sexual appetites, violence against women, and the killing of our fellow man. How many rock stars got gunned down in the streets of L.A. in the 70s and 80s?
I mean the beatles were looked at as bad dudes with long hiar and out there but really they were like kids pop compared to the stuff that comes out now.

They promoted drug use, promiscuity, and generally rejected societal norms. That was much more harmful in the 60s than little Youngboy rapping about killing his enemies.
Everyone has sex and is exposed to drugs. Very few people are thuggin it and lovin it.
ETA don’t get me wrong I don’t think rap is great for society

Yep, there was certainly no sex and drugs in rock and roll...
Because sex and drugs hadn't existed before the invention of rock?

Wow... I don’t know who a single person is on that list.

I'm not saying rock and roll didn't have a negative impact on our culture. While it's true rock and roll has become synonymous with sex and drugs, I would argue the music that was made during that particular era was very transformative and original. Other than Taylor Swift, there isn't a single person on that list who actually knows the first thing about musical instruments and good lyrics.

What’s crazy is the awesome music black folks put out in the 60’s and 70’s then you listen to the shite now.
Agreed. The original Motown artists would roll over in their graves if they had to listen to the trash that is released today.
The list in the OP tells me this country is fricked long term. Hip hop culture is a stain on humanity.

No wonder young Americans are so fricked up

I was thinking that about hip hop yesterday. I grew up listening to Metallica and a lot of alternative stuff, but Tupac really caught my attention and I still listen to his stuff. He wasn’t just trashy gangster rap(which most gangster rap was) he really thoughtful, insightful, and eloquent with hard core lyrical stuff mixed in. Since then this move to total garbage hip hop and this drowned out pissing and moaning rap has taken over. It’s pathetic. I mean if you’re gonna be a rapper for Christ’s sake don’t sit there and cry to me about your feelings.

look at almost any social indicator and follow it over time with the rise of rock and roll

I’ve heard of 3 people on that list but I have no clue what their music sounds like outside of Taylor Swift and it’s terrible.

Cody Jinks isn't on this list? I call BS.

By 1970 when they broke up, your point was no longer true.

Only one I’ve ever heard on that list is Taylor Swift.

Even into the 80 and 90s
Michael Jackson, Prince, Bel Biv Devoe...I could go on... they put out some great music.

Compare the lyrics of WAP to Hold your hand.
