re: Most ridiculous claims you've heard people make

That claim is a good one. People who dont practice social distancing and think this isn't serious will just add to the problem.
Going back to work or re-opening businesses will definitely increase those odds x10. 1 person can infect up to 10 people without knowing that they're sick so just imagine what will happen if we go back to work and lax on social distancing.

But as far I know we don't have any idea if people are building a resistance.
It would have to be remarkably different from other types of coronavirus for that to be the case. Early on, there were reports out of China of people being re-infected, but they were never substantiated and no solid information has come out proving that since.

wouldn't it be fairly easy to test samples from recovered patients to test this?
That is what serologic testing is. They test blood from a broad sample of the population and can look for antibodies that show prior infection. Serology shows how far reaching the virus was in a population.
The podcast "This Week in Virology" is a very good resource, and they do a great job of making a very complicated subject easier to understand. They are pretty much 100% Covid-19 right now with 2 or 3 episodes a week. I've learned a ton from them.

Geraldo Rivera said that on Fox News.

That Pelosi is an honest lady and pretty to boot.

That physical attacks against Asian people are way up specifically because Trump calls this the Chinese Coronavirus.

Guy I work with said they were estimating 400,000,000 deaths from corona. Then told me I was misinformed and questioned where I was getting my info when I laughed at him.

When you think about it, it's not that crazy of a number. Some people are claiming the virus will spread to 70% of the population no matter what we do. The vast majority will be fine, but if you put the mortality rate at 0.5%, you get more than 1.1 million. 330,000,000 x 70% x 0.5% = 1,155,000.
Yeah, I was expecting way crazier than OP when I opened the thread.
You'd need a 1% mortality rate with 100 million infected or .5 with 200 million infected to be around those numbers.
The CDC estimated 75 to 125 million Americans would get it, and we're still fleshing out mortality.
I obviously hope 1.1 mil is far more than the truth, but it isn't some kooky number out of nowhere. I was expecting an OP that had a claim about 50% mortality or tens of millions dead.

It's not close to 100% accurate but if you had fibrosis in your lungs from COVID-19 pneumonia, then you would struggle to hold your breath for 10 seconds.
That said, you could easily have COVID-19 that simply hasn't progressed to that point.

That we had shut this down coming from China and there's nothing at all to worry about.

My neighbor told me a few months back that his 8 year old throws a 68 mph fastball. I tried not to laugh in his face, but failed.

Some of the bench press numbers people claim on this board are pretty entertaining.

There are some articles out there that claim the eventual US death toll will reach 2 million. Even with the country being shut down.
Once there don’t even end up being 20,000 deaths, those scientists still won’t lose their reputations.
