Guy I knew, chiropractor at 45 years of age, did that last month leaving behind a wife and children.

What’s worse? That, or watching your kids become adults?

I’m 45 and I know my family is preparing for life without me because I started making the preparations myself five years ago. Anything can happen at anytime, whether it’s a car accident or cancer. Get your ducks in a row to help save aggravation for those left behind.

I mean, death is nothing to fear. It’s as natural as life. Anxious about the process, sure. But fear death itself? Eh. So many people I treasured in my life have gone on to glory. I look forward to seeing them again.

Not that I want to go right now. I want to retire and enjoy life and be a pawpaw one day. But if death comes knocking at my door before I reach those milestones, so be it. I’ve had a good life thus far.

Just went and bought a convertible Vette, started cheating on my wife with a 22 year old. Never felt younger …

That’s why I’m loving the military retirement pay mixed with potential VA rating. Nice cushion payments for life making later years a lot easier

The average male lives 72 or 73 years in the US.

Well, not exactly. Depends what race you are.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), COVID-19 deaths made up nearly 74% of the decline in life expectancy between 2019 to 2020, with a 50% decline noted between 2020 and 2021.

The analysis doesn’t provide insight into racial and ethnic differences. Yan says it is an area he and his colleagues plan to explore further. “We know that the disparity at baseline between men and women is much higher for Black Americans than it is for white Americans, for instance. And the interplay between gender and race is an important area for further study,” he said. As of 2022, the life expectancy for African American men was 61.5, nearly eight years shorter than for African American women.

Asian males: 81.2 years
Hispanic males: 74.4 years
White males: 73.7 years
Black males: 66.7 years
American Indian/Alaskan Native males: 61.5 years

I've always wondered, do these take into account average health individuals? I mean, surely someone that exercises regularly, keeps their diet relatively healthy, stays moving around, etc. must have a greater statistical chance on living much longer.

Do they show numbers for those kinds of people?

I think about this. I plan to retire at 62 when mortgage paid off. I have a decent 401k if it doesn’t turn down and will likely work somewhere I want to work part time. But I’m over working to live. I’m thinking of throwing my 401k in a cash acct to hold and then continue with the investments with new deposits. In case it downturns.

Meh. My crew would be lost without me. I'm more leaning forward to getting them prepared than they are.

Probably true of some folks. Not for me. I'm a hero. I make the world a better place.

So why, then, would anyone want to work until they’re 70?

What else am I going to do? Navel gaze and pick at my toenails?

I’m 58, and have been gainfully employed for 35 years. I’m tired. I look forward to being dead weight in a few years.

My wife's 86yo grandmother has been vocal about being ready to die for a few years now. Her husband is gone and she outlived one of her children. Just live a good life, be able to smile on the good times and bad, and enjoy the 0.00000000000000000001% chance occurrence that you were ever alive at all.

My son has witnessed firsthand how bad my gastro issues have become in the last week and he sat me down this morning to have a “ son father talk” today. I think for the first time he imagined me being gone and he wanted to tell me to be sure to live life to the fullest. It was pretty cool to be honest.

Three of my four grandparents passed at 96 years of age.

I'm at the mid-point of my life now, should I live as long.

Attractive young women commonly call me "sir."

I've phased past listening to both Led Zeppelin AND Steely Dan.

I don't care to leave the house for much. It is what it is.

How Ironic would it be if an eighteen-wheeler turns the lights out on you later today.
