I’ll throw in Russo-Japanese War. Russia’s defeat lead to a major wave of militarism but also made other powers like Austria-Hungary and Germany think they were weak.

I don't know if it's the MOST important, but the most underrated in terms of importance has to be the 7 Years War/French and Indian War
