Looking for machine that actually works and not a gimmick.
Something that is price reasonable if possible
Elliptical, treadmill or bike seems like norm

you have a gf/wife, if so, you're paying for her & sex burns 8 calories a minute, use her.

Elliptical
I don't like machines, but this one got me through some issues I had. Upper body was never a problem, but I had to burn the legs.

Rowing machine
Found this on rest days from running about two years ago, I love it. I like bike riding as well but rowing is total body

Anything will "work" as long as you actually do it consistently and at a high enough intensity.
From my experiences though, most people who get home machines will do neither.

I got on an elliptical for the first time yesterday. Awkward as hell for me to use and almost immediate muscle burn in my legs. So that seemed legit.
I think I'd like the row machine more though

It will end up being the most expensive clothing rack you ever purchased. Why not just go for a run?

Was going to post this. The next addition to my garage gym.
I'f you do go with a treadmill, get one that has adjustable incline settings. Just walking for a few minutes on a steep incline will have you sweating your arse off

Machines in general are boring. Unless you get a stable of them. And still it would suck. Best I could say is do you have any sort of bike? You can get a trainer for your bike for around 100 bucks. Use your own bike as a stationary bike. You can play a YouTube video with different training scenarios and it keeps your interest. I still at most can do it 3 days a week. I've got to get outside. With this option, you can just take the bike outside. Plus you aren't spending much.

Don't waste your money, just go for a run around the neighborhood.

A stair master is the toughest workout. A bike is maybe the most boring. A treadmill is a good choice esp if you jog while holding some light Dumbbells.
Whatever you do, make sure there's a TV in easy view Bc if you're looking at a wall you won't do it and if you're exercising hard you can't read a book.

I got a fan bike from Academy for about $150. That the one that works your arms too. For the price and the cardiovascular work, it is hard to beat.

I run on my treadmill with wrist weights while watching ESPN on iPad. Just make sure you change the incline every few minutes. If you don't, it can cause a little pot belly. Read that in a Men's Health article.

rowing machine is good. id also suggest a high incline treadmill. most treadmills go to a 15% grade, but you can find some that go up to 30%. if you hate running, walking slowly up a steep grade is just as effective of a workout.
