I use Heartguard for the worms and for flees I treat my yard with Tallstar.
I tried Trifexis and my dog almost died. Not an uncommon issue apparently.

Trifexis on both dogs. I have never seen a flea on them.

Been using Trifexis on my dog since she was a pup. Zero fleas in 5 years thus far.

Sentinel is likely going to be your most cost effective bet. Heartgard is about to increase in pricing (if it hasn't already) and Trifexis is 2-3x more than Sentinel.

My dog hated Trifexis and would sometimes throw it up (although Trifexis offers refunds for this).

I use Bravecto for flea and tick, and he gets a shot every six months at the vet for heartworm. I haven't seen a flea or tick on him since I've started using the Bravecto. I think it costs me about $50 for a 3 month dose. I think the heartworm shot is around $40 for a six month vaccination.

You have to treat everything at once; dog, yard and house.

Heartworm

Read through your link and it is filled with incorrect information and horrible advice. Some of it is true but I would never trust my own dog or dogs of my friends and family with his plan

How long ago did you have her tested? If over a month, I'd bring her back & have her retested then start the prevention immediately & stay on schedule 12 months a year.

Trifexis is the best.

For my 65 lb. dog, cost is about $85 when ordered through Australia.

Ivomec for heartworms and shoot into their mouth with syringe (no needle). You can get a lifetime supply for about $25

I was told by the guy at the feed store where I bought the ivomec to have the dog tested for heartworm prior to giving the medication. If they have worms it will likely kill the dog.

My dog decided he hates Trifexus. Getting him to swallow that damn pill is impossible.

One slice of American cheese in the microwave for 8 seconds. Enclose the pill in it, mold it and let it harden a bit...put in the back of the dog's throat, cup the snout in your hands and lift up, wait for the swallow. Done.

I understand your reasoning if I was living in a house. I am planning on treating the inside of my apartment. But treating outside in my opinion is just a waste of time and money because ole baws next door with his 2 nasty arse mutts could just drag fleas right back into the area I treated.

I need something that will kill the fleas that make it onto my dog.

Thanks for the input everyone!

Trifexis, it's worth the price with what it does. You'll never have to worry about either problem. Buy in bulk.

Heartgard is the best for heartworm. Hard to find right now but it's disguised as a treat, in contrast to Iverheart which you have to push down their throat.

Comfortis is ungodly expensive, but it works.

You're looking at about $200 a year for 12 flea pills.
