Niece used Heartguard her dog got heart worms.

My wife uses this on our 8 dogs have yet to have any one get a heart worm. One is 21 years old we have 5 that are 15 year olds and 2 that are 8 year olds

I adopted a sweet GS mix that was positive for HW's. The vet gave us the liquid ivomec to treat her and three months later she tested negative. I realize it was risky but the other way was to expensive for us at the time and to hard on dog.
