Most cost effective heartworm and flea prevention for dogs?

I'm looking into getting our new Schnauzer (1.5 years old) a heartworm and flea prevention pill. Lots of different options. I was thinking about buying some oral Ivermectin suspension from the feed store and give her that for the heartworm prevention and then just use a separate flea prevention pill like Comfortis or Bravecto.
I like the idea of having a heartworm and flea prevention pill all in one like Trifexis, but I'm assuming that will be the most expensive option.
Was also thinking about the chewable Heartgard instead of the Ivermectin liquid.
Thoughts?

I use Nexgard for fleas and he gets heartworm shots at the vet.

How long do the shots last for? 6 months, a year?

Ivomec for heartworms and shoot into their mouth with syringe (no needle). You can get a lifetime supply for about $25

That's what I was thinking. It's the 1% solution? What's the correct dosage? I read 0.1cc for every 10 pounds?
Where do you buy it at?

I use Heartgard for my dogs, it is a flea and heartworm topical medicine. A little pricey for 3 dogs a month but it works well.

My dogs take Sentinel. It's cheaper than Triflexis. For dogs under 25 pounds its about $40 for 6 months. It kills flea eggs and prevents heart worms. Been using it for about 10 years. No heart worm issues at all. Did see a couple fleas on my longhaired dog once, but one dose of capstar took care of it.

Trifexis has been incredible for our dog.
Heartworms are one thing and is cheap to prevent, but a once monthly pill to COMPLETELY remove fleas is awesome.
I haven't see a flea on him alive in 4 years.

Not that i know of,but they do have a dog door so could get sick outside without me knowing. One of them truly hates it though, can sniff it out no matter what I put it in and spits it out.
When i tried the topical flea solution that you put on their back, one dog would lick it off the other ands always puke.

Regardless of which heartworm prevention you go with (I use Ivomec, be sure it isn't the ivomec F), if your dog is 1.5 years old, get him/her heartworm tested first. Starting a dog on hw prevention without making sure it is hw free, could be a fatal mistake.

Interested also. I've been battling fleas with my dog off and on for almost 6 months now. I live an apartment which has numerous other dogs so she picks them up even after I treat her with the cheapest topical stuff.
Do the anti flea pills really work and if so do I just asks vet for them?

She tested negative already. Should I wait and retest her in 3 months, and then if still negative start it up then?

Yeah, my dog was full of fleas until I started giving him them and now I never see fleas.
