I used to do a payroll for a drilling company, the employee base was about 400 and almost all Cajuns. About 80% of the names were A-L, Aucoin, Alleman to Lasseigne, Ledet and Leblanc.

Sometimes it seems like there’s more Cajun names than others. I hear a new one all the time.
Hard to believe Hebert is #1

If my name is on that list but I was born and raised in New Orleans, am I still a Cajun?

Do you personally know someone or used to know someone from all 20 surnames on the list? I’m 18-20. Don’t personally know a Thibodeaux or a Benoit.

I don’t think I know a Cormier.

In Southern Lafourche Parish I can say with 1000% certainty that Cheramie is #1 down here followed by Guidry.

Hebert blood here. Also, a little surprised that my other bloodline side, Foret did not make the list.

It's mentioned but Fontenot is a Colonial French name not associated with the Cajuns. The Fontenots were here not too long before the Cajuns showed up arriving in the River Parishes at the end of the French and Indian war.

It seems like every 3rd person in Evangeline and St. Landry parish is a Fontenot and just about every person has Fontenot blood in them.

I had a class at LSUE with around 60 ppl in it.
We had 9 Fontenot’s and only 2 were knowingly 3rd cousins or closer.
