fig.

Look I understand that my daisy dukes aren't for everybody but there's no need to be a meanie about it. Why can't we just talk it out like civilized men... over a milkshake with two straws? My treat!

I've been given feedback that some people don't appreciate being referred to as dog dick.

I worked with an engineer who got called "young man" by one of the superintendents who was a good bit younger. You would think he called his mother a whore or something.

While it's common practice to address a very elderly man by "young man" as kind of an ingratiating gesture, keep in mind to NEVER say it to a middle aged guy who still considers himself to be somewhat vibrant. He will get mega-pissed off.

I'll allow it from some 70-80 year old (I'm 54), but I tell all the younger people at work not to call me 'Sir' or 'Mister". I prefer being called by my name.

Any stranger that refers to me as "buddy", "bro", or "chief" irritates me. For some damn reason it gets used by service industry folks. Its like, " hey chief, I don't know you, and Im sure as hell not a "chief", so why are you calling me that?"

ETA: Add in "boss", "champ". frick those. Again, unless you KNOW me.

Exactly.

ETA: The first two responses covered me.

I hate that word chief. I have a good family friend who calls me that, and I am 100% okay with him calling me chief, but otherwise, go frick yourself.

I believe the clinical mathematical term for this quantity is "approaching zero".

I started with "sport" a long time ago in a kinda sorta joking manner with a few select people who can deal with it and it works. Otherwise I ALWAYS use everyone else's given name.

I don't much care what other's call me, I can figure out how I am with them from the entire relationship, not a name they would use.
