Not sure if it was the dry summer or the wet winter but they are out in full force.

I was swarmed by hundreds of these pests when I went outside today and it was about 45 degrees.

You don’t say? South LA is basically a huge swamp. Of course there’s going to be a shite ton of mosquitoes. You just gotta learn to live with it.

In a roundabout way, it could be.

A similar thread last week was determined to be crane flies.

For those who are pretending like this is “normal”, but like they idiotically did during the summer heat wave/drought: yes, we always have mosquitos. No, they are normally not even close to this bad.

One odd thing I’ve noticed that this round is a brown mosquito, like we had growing up, not the newer tiger mosquito that we normally see now.

These are straight up mosquitos. Most I've ever seen in my back yard during the middle of the day. Time to muster the mosquito plane.

You're obviously from Texas. We call them "Daddy long legs" on the east side if the state line. Yes, they're out in force.

I find mosquitos become more a problem in south Louisiana during little rain fall or slight droughts. During frequent and heavy rains their breeding locations get washed away.

I had a crazy infestation last week (posted about here). Mosquito Joe came and sprayed next day. All clear since minus the pile of dead ones I swept off patio

Mine were midges I think

I was about to say it's most likely the mosquito hawk (aka crane fly) that everyone is seeing. The drought last summer threw off the typical late summer explosion we see that is typically knocked down by municipal fogging for mosquitos that keeps the population knocked down. Because the drought jacked up their typical cycle they are popping up with the warmer weather we had a few weeks. Just different this year because they aren't coming into the adult stage during peak mosquito season when people are spraying or municipalities are fogging to knock mosquitos and other pests down. They are harmless, just a nuisance. Taurus, Dominion, and Bifen have all been known to kill them if they are too big of a nuisance. They only have a 10-15 day adult cycle, so should see the numbers drop drastically over the next week or so.

I once argued with my 9th grade biology teacher to the point of being thrown out of class over the insect banging itself against one of the windows. She said it was a mosquito. I said it was a crane fly. She was having none of it. It was me saying, "If THAT is a mosquito it is the biggest damn mosquito I've seen in my life and we have a big problem!" that was the straw that broke that ol' hag's back and got me banished to the hall.
