TOPLINE As the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread in the U.S., batter the economy and pull people out of cities, a new Pew Research report out Friday found that a record number of young people—a jaw-dropping 52%—are now living with their parents, even beating out figures recorded during The Great Depression.

According to a Pew Research analysis of government data, 52% of Americans ages 18 to 29 were living with at least one parent in July.

While the youngest subcategory of adults from 18 to 24 had the most steep rate increase, the Pew analysis found that the number of young people moving back in was largely similar across ethnic groups, gender and between city dwellers and residents of rural areas.

How much of the increase was due to kids having to leave school?

Well, he just finished law school and can't find a job right now. He never had a real job while in school either so he has no source of income currently. I worked my entire way through school BTW

That’s what I was wondering. If this is pre-corona figures those bums need to get a job but if it’s post-corona the numbers aren’t too surprising.

This I find hard to believe, plenty of work out there. May not be his dream job or his field, but there's work.

This is easy to believe.

Some are just pansies raised to get a trophy for nothing and claim a disability to get special accommodations their whole life and can’t hack it in the “real world.”

But, it is harder to live on your own these days. Factories moved to other countries or automation took the jobs that used to earn a living wage without college. Cost of living is high, with rents/mortgages high, requirements for multiple types of insurance, higher cost of college, and taxes on everything. I know our parents didn’t spend near as much money on college and insurance as most of us do now.

This is purely my opinion based on observation and i have no science to back it up.

I don't think he's going to get the dream job he wants, but, and this is according to him, no one is hiring associates right now especially when the firm would have to do extra teaching since the new graduates don't have to take the bar but instead be mentored. As far as other jobs, again according to him, he is being told he is over qualified. Take it for what it's worth, but I know he's not wanting to live there.

Completely different fields, but I just found a new job after being laid off since mid June.

I've been living back at home the past few months. My roommate moved out and with everything going on with corona it was easier just to move back in with them at the time. I work offshore so I'm gone half the time anyways and they don't really care what I do at this point so I go wherever I want. I've been saving a shite ton of money but I'm probably going to find my own place soon

nvm kinda harsh.. I lived with my parents til my mid-20s because they were supportive and it allowed me to save up. Was very well off for my age by the time I bought my first house by being able to do that.
