1) People don't really understand how much Trump is hated. Trump has caused liberals who I usually have no issue with, to become completely ate up with TDS. TDS is a real thing. In fact, with Trump going away, I'm really curious to see if these liberals calm the hell down and return to the same demeanor they had before Trump.
2) It's becoming more clear now that Trump won because so many Democrats hate Hillary. Many of those same Democrats hate Biden, but they realized they hate Trump even more. So, their insane hatred of Trump caused them to hold their nose and vote for Biden.
3) The suburban soccer moms really, really, really hate Trump. These are people who have pretty conservative values, but care about how people act more than they care about political issues. They turned on Trump in 2020 in a big way.

Crony capitalism is a huge impediment to actual capitalism.
Crony capitalism is a thing because of overreaching government control.
You don't solve the problem of crony capitalism by bringing in "better" increased government control. Because it's never actually better.

All of this is true. And, speaking for myself, the last four years have been the worst of my entire life waiting to see what that fricking clown was going to frick up next. Believe me when I say that there is nothing I look forward to more than getting to wake up on a random morning and not have to wonder what my President is going to frick up today. We're beyond ready for a return to normal.
Also, you point to the larger question of what the GOP is thinking. It cannot continue to be a relevant political party in this country if "Trumpism" is the path they go down. They'll become nothing more than a regional political movement with little to no power. But they just can't quit him.
