HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte has signed a policy into law on how recreational marijuana will be regulated and taxed in the state after more than half of voters approved legalizing cannabis for adults 21 and older last November. The bill only allows sales in counties that previously vote for legalizing recreational marijuana, Montana Public Radio reported Wednesday. The policy also taxes sales at 20% and outlines where the revenue will go. Gianforte, a Republican, said the state law will regulate cannabis in a “safe, responsible, and appropriately regulated manner” and allocate $6 million in tax revenue to a newly proposed substance abuse prevention and treatment program. Some Democrats voted against legalizing recreational marijuana because the framework did not fund conservation programs as originally proposed.

Exactly. It’s like they’re selling themselves for the government to give them a right which should exist naturally.

I think people are happy that it’s legal. They are not celebrating the taxes.

Nah, people always use taxes as a major reason for legalization. It's retarded.

Yeah, this is true.

The "legalize it and tax it" crew are the people the don't use and just want to be part of the legalize crowd.

Agreed but at least they can avoid it legally by growing at home. Can't do that here.

I was just in Denver and it was like 26% tax after all the local option bullshite. It’s always like this in a legal state. Black market weed is cheaper.

Is growing it legal?
Do they tax it if you grow it?
Or only if you purchase it?

Philosophical question: are rights “natural,” as in you are born with them, or must all rights be paid for in terms of blood or money?

I wonder if gay marriage would have been approved years earlier if the gays agreed to pay a big tax for the privilege. They should have tried that.

We gain certain rights if we agree to certain conditions.

Mississippi voters overwhelmingly approved medical marijuana through voter ballot initiative. Mississippi Supreme Court found some legal loophole to declare all ballot initiatives unconstitutional in the state just so marijuana could be defeated. Now, only the legislature can legalize marijuana in that state I believe.

It is going to be very, very, very hard for marijuana to become a thing in the south.

In South Dakota, voters easily approved recreational there, but the governor is trying really hard to overturn the will of the voters as well on technicalities.
