quote:

Switzer had agreed to train a hunting dog for Moses Samuel Stiltz. The dog was lost, having run after a bear, and Switzer offered a $35 reward for its return. A few days later, a man found the dog and brought it to the Studio City bar where Switzer then worked. Switzer paid the man $35 and bought him $15 worth of drinks. Several days later, Switzer and his friend Jack Piott, a 37-year-old unit still photographer, decided that Moses Stiltz should repay Switzer the reward money for the dog. Shortly before 7:00 that evening, January 21, 1959, Switzer and Piott went to Rita Corrigan's home in Mission Hills, where Stiltz was staying, to collect the $50 ($400 today) they felt Stiltz owed Switzer.

Stiltz later testified before the coroner's jury that Switzer had banged on the front door, saying, "Let me in, or I'll kick in the door." Once inside, he and Stiltz began to argue. Switzer said, "I want that 50 bucks you owe me now, and I mean now." When Stiltz refused to hand the money over, the men began to fight. Switzer allegedly struck Stiltz with a glass-domed clock, which caused him to bleed from his left eye. Stiltz retreated to his bedroom and returned with a .38-caliber revolver. Switzer grabbed the gun, resulting in a shot being fired that struck the ceiling. Switzer forced Stiltz into a closet, although Stiltz had regained his revolver. Switzer allegedly pulled a knife and screamed, "I'm going to kill you!" Fearing Switzer was about to attack, Stiltz shot him in the groin. Switzer suffered massive internal bleeding and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.[8]

I have been involved with training Field Trial Labs for over 25 years. Some Field Trial Labs sell for A LOTT more than $25,000!

This story sounded familiar, so I searched and found this similar story from Arkansas last year: LINK.

Most likely field trials. The owner is factoring in the training he has spent on the dog. When he bought the puppy it might have been $3k - $5K to start. I'm guessing this is a trainer for Field Trials that stole the dog. The world of Field Trial can be very expensive. Owners can be 5K-10K in the hole when the dog is washed out. They just aren't cut out to win field trials and not worth spending $500 to $1k+ to continue to train.

Every dog we've ever had has been a pet/house/duck dog first. Whether they're a champion-and some of hem have been-or a dud, they're still part of the family. If you're doing it any other way, you're doing if for the wrong reason.

Field trial dog for sure.

A normal pup will be $1,500+ plus $1K/month to ride on a pro’s trailer.

My dog’s trainer said, “these dogs will cause grown men to spend a fortune and all their time for a $.25 ribbon.” The most he ever heard spent on a dog was $250k for a well known female; and that was decades ago.

David, you should post this on the OB. It would get a lot more traction and we could possibly find out who owned the dog. I bet KemoSabe knows the scoop.

I kind of informally know the trainer. Never really heard bad things about him.

Dogs, especially hunting or working dogs, are different things to different folks but thanks for voicing your opinion.

I don’t care whether my dog is valued at 25K or 25 bucks; you steal, sell, and pretend to bury him, I won’t be calling the police to address the issue.

You internet bad asses are so fricking predictable. Yes, you would call the police. You'd probably be whining like a fricking girl when you did it.

Spending the rest of your life in Angola over a shiteater doesn’t sound very smart.

Well duh, of course I would actually call the police. But putting myself in that guys shoes and thinking about someone stealing my dog has me fuming like hell. So just let me use an obvious hyperbole for the sake of emphasis you dick. We all understand what this basic rhetorical tool is designed for; there’s no need to go full blown aspergers and demand perfect precision of language.
