Old hwy 165 (not the new route) passes along the Ouachita river through a neighborhood of tired homes that were once middle to upper middle class to even grand 75-100 years ago. Here and there a well kept one holds out valiantly. Tucked away in this district are the Beidenharn Museum and the G.B. Cooley House, designed by a pupil of Frank Lloyd Wright. Downtown is not so much blighted as simply largely vacant. Here and there an upscale restaurant or two, along with the ubiquitous lawyer's offices around the courthouse.

All Monroe needs is a little love to be a jewel of a town. It's not too far gone, yet. It's ripe to become a hipster mecca. A few craft breweries and neckbeards would do wonders for the place. Everybody hates on them, but they are true urban pioneers.

Downtown has a huge potential. Vantage has helped a lot.

Don’t forget the axe throwing place, the escape room and the indoor rock climbing place

There are some freaking fantastic restaurants in Monroe. It really is odd.

Monroe will still be standing after Shreveport kills its own.

Id like to find a female lawyer who’s ubiquitous.

Great Hampton Inn off I-20. Easy access to the Pecanland Mall and Olive Garden

It needs a new mayor. Lucky for us somebody just announced he’s running.

Agreed, downtown Monroe has tons of potential. Lots of neat old buildings including the Vantage building which is beautiful. Good restaurants right there and the river market too

It needs a new public venue. The Civic Center is way past its prime. It's to small for concert venues, presidential/governor rallys, rodeo's, etc. It should be leveled and a new state of the art facility built. I don't think CenturyLink stays in for much longer. They slowly laying off workers, and down sizing.

I don't live there, but have known him since high school. Grew up in the same town in NELA. He's a great guy. Hopefully, enough folks there vote for him.

I’ve said this for a long time now. If Monroe could get out of its own way it could really be a super nice place. Nobody seems to give a shite though and is content with letting it wither away.
