Also define “special Ed” , especially since you’re assuming.
As I said a couple pages back, if believing in magical beings qualifies one for special ed then the majority of adults in the world should still be riding the short bus.

A friend of mine just posted a picture of their Elf on the Shelf in his nightly pose for her son to discover tomorrow morning. Her son is 10 yrs old and not, to my knowledge, in special ed. Shouldn't this elf shite end about 7 or 8? I'm pretty sure I was questioning the existence of Santa by 8 or 9. No way I would have bought into an elf every night for a month at age 10.

I have a friend that still does it for her 9 year old daughter. My daughter is 6 years old and I know with the joy it brings her every day if she’s still that excited about it at 9 or 10 then I’ll keep doing it. Let kids be kids.

OP was suggesting that the kid is mentally deficient in some way for believing in santa. I am suggesting that believing in santa is no different than religion.

Maybe he pretends to believe so he will keep getting the presents?

My daughter is nine and is still very excited about the elf this year. I figured last year was probably the final year we'd get of her believing in Santa and the elf (especially given some of the questions she was asking that seem to suggest she was suspect about the who thing), but she is still "in" this year.

I would love to see how many of the ones critical of the 10 year old still believing in the elf actually have children of their own. Because as a parent you realize the time for them to be "little" flies by so quickly. So you cherish the little instances of them hanging on to those aspects of childhood. If the boy is 15, 16, 17 years old and still believes in the elf/santa, that is probably a bit weird and suggestive of an overall Peter Pan issue. But at 10? Let the kid have fun. He has his whole life to know the truth.

Christmas isn't about you as an adult. It's most enjoyable viewed through a child's eyes.

I have a cousin that still does it with her mom and she is moved out and graduated from college. Social media perpetuates this shite, they enjoying showing it off more than actually doing it most likely.

My 10 year old still believes in Santa I think but you can see the cracks forming for sure. We’ve never done the elf on a shelf stuff.

Not saying others can’t y’all have at it

Seems like we keep adding these “traditions” to Christmas instead of prioritizing what it’s actually about. I’ll go yell at a cloud now y’all enjoy the stuffed elf

I hate the thing, but it is quite a brilliant capitalist product. It's really low effort to produce and material cost is extremely minimal and then there is really absolutely no need to market it at a certain point. It absolutely abuses social media idiots into buying and doing this thing.

I will not do it though, I trained my kid early on that these elves aren't real elves and she has been crushing other parents' hearts that want their kids to do this. I love it, I have gotten so much hate from other parents about ruining this for them. My wife gets kinda aggravated about it, but she really didn't want to do the thing, so she tolerates my destruction of this for other parents.

Sometimes it's for the parents to.
We did the tree of Friday and the eves come when the tree is up.
My 4 year old was so happy to look for the elves we have one for each kid. That was a priceless moment her pure happiness.
10 may be old, but maybe mom wants another year of that.

Lot of immature virgins in this thread. When you have a kid you will understand.

1) My 10 year old helps us with putting out the santa gifts for our younger children. It makes him excited to be apart of the magic....leading into

2) As long as the kid believes in the 'magic' of christmas it doesn't matter if Santa or Elves are real or not. Its not about Santa or the Elves, its about the magic. The magic of jesus christ's birth. The magic of making other people feel good for holidays. The magic that's associated with the spirit of this time of year.

3) Don't be a Dick Downer. Let this mom believe in magic and let this kid believe in magic. Do you hear the bells?
