The Brit, who works in a homeless shelter, learned that her former husband’s new wife, 42, had reported her social media posts to the police in 2016.

A shocked Laleh was detained and her passport confiscated under Dubai’s strict cyber crime laws.

She has now been banned from the leaving the UAE while Paris was allowed to return home to Richmond upon Thames.

The single mum is scheduled to appear in court on April 11 and faces up to two years in jail and a fine of £50,000.

She said: “I had no idea he was getting married again, and so soon after our own marriage broke down. I reacted badly.”

The British mum made the comments while living in the UK when she spotted a wedding picture from her ex.

She continued: “I lashed out and wrote two unpleasant comments about his new wife on his Facebook page.

“I know shouldn’t have. I should have behaved better, but I felt angry, betrayed and hurt.

quote:

Writing in Farsi, she posted: “I hope you go under the ground you idiot. Damn you. You left me for this horse.

“You married a horse you idiot.”

Dubai’s cybercrime laws state that an old social media post from before a person visits Dubai can see them heavily fined and jailed for years.

Actually, I understand that Dubai is one hell of a nice place... They just have some archaic laws and customs.

More reasons never to go to Dubai.

I don’t give a good goddamn if it is the Disneyland of the Middle East. That place is severely fricked.

What in the absolute totalitarian hell...

Scratching that God-forsaken place off my list of places to visit.

Having a bunch of nice, fancy stuff around you doesn’t do any good if all you can do is look at it through a jail cell window.

Ignore the veneer of modernity.

It’s a medieval society.

If this was a law in the US half the population would be locked up.

Interesting take. I never went to jail there. Simply not breaking the law wherever you are usually prevents jail time.

She is grown. She knew the law there. She broke it, and is possibly going to jail. It is a pretty simple thing to figure out. There are laws here that I don't like or don't agree with, but that alone does not prevent me from being prosecuted if I violate one of them.

If you're going to spend time abroad, it would behoove you to study up on how to stay out of trouble there first. When in Rome...or Dubai or Sharjah or wherever...
