They were going to put a picture of Mississippi State's cheerleaders on it but the flagpole wasn't strong enough.

Glad Mississippi did what they felt they needed to do, but it’s a real shame IMO that it came as a result of pressure from the NCAA and SEC, and not of their own free will. I really hate to give terrorists the victory. It only enables their bad behavior.

They should have let the people vote on it

But they were too scared Mississippi would vote to keep the flag like they did ~20 years ago.

It was time. (And I was a charter member of first group defending it)

I have lived in several different states and I can’t tell you what imagery was on any of their state flags. Until this controversy, I didn’t what was on Mississippi’s either. If a state flag is a point of contention, then I am glad we are changing it.

A few days ago, I came across this on reddit. I actually think the two straight river designs are very good:

It should, it was their flag before the CSA

Nah, it was stubborn to keep the battle flag of another “nation” as a state flag. It means nothing.

haha this reminds me I saw a bumper sticker in Biloxi yesterday with the confederate flag and next to it it said FIGHTING TERRORISTS SINCE 1861!

Good thing they didn't fight ISIS or else my wife and daughter would be in Burqas right now

Nope. Mississippi will need to get a lot more educated & articulate before it's Drew Breeze level. Drew's a college grad, while Mississippi struggles to finish 6th grade.

Overriding democracy because you believe the people will vote differently than what you want. This opens the door for a lot.
