The JPS school system is failing and is about to be taken over by the State. A comparable school system in the state that is doing well has 180 employees in the Administration Department. JPS has over 900. They have other things to worry about. But they're spending time and money changing the names on buildings.

That particular school is an IB school. It's likely one of the best in Mississippi.

Will the kids now stay in school and graduate now that the great mulatto will be the school’s namesake?

JPS is the worst school district in the United States of America.

Full stop. End of thread.

JACKSON, MS - A public school in Mississippi will soon be stripped of its Confederate namesake and named after another president who parents, students and teachers say is more fitting for the school, Barack Obama.

So they're gonna name it after a president who covered up the fact that the Russians were trying to bribe people to get hold of our uranium?

Sounds about right.

Why would they name a school after the worst president in US history. Oh well, I guess even embarrassing failures should be recognized every now and then.

I don’t have much opinion one way or the other on the school being named after Obama, but no school in the UNITED STATES should be named after Jefferson fricking Davis.

It’s similar to the whole statue ordeal. While you southerners see these monuments and such as honoring your forefathers, right or wrong, the rest of the country sees these statues (and school names) as symbols of slavery.

Can you imagine the melt when a school is named after Trump? For sure they will be called racists.

The people in that school and county can name it what they want.

Hopefully the change is the will of the majority in the area though, and not a few people trying to make a name for themselves.

Why should we care what the "rest of the country" thinks? "You" outsiders need to come down off your high horse, or better yet, take a trip down south and get knocked off it.
Don't you people have a LBGT march for special treatment to attend?

You'd have to grow up in Jackson to grasp how fricked up that place is today. For instance, all the kids do at JPS schools everyday is run amok the classrooms and fornicate all over school property. I'll be interested to see how long the State stays in the game in trying to improve the former institution known as JPS.
