Multiple times during the year, we need a cable, a connector or adapter for computer, TV or internet. The Shack was a one stop shop that solved the issue 95% of the time. With their closing, stuck with Amazon or other online purchase.

The big chains like Beat Buy don’t even have the accessories for the products they sell.

When the need arises, we need the item today, not in 3-5 days.

Not only the availability of product.
But, they actually employed people who knew what they were doing.

Yeah, sucks when you need a small fuse or something like that.

Yep. Needed some D cell battery holders with leads for a project. Went to what used to be the radio shack in town and it wasn't there anymore. Loved that place.

And if they do, it is incredibly overpriced.

Had a technology emergency and was forced to overpay for a cable at Best Buy because I needed it immediately.

However, I will say that Best Buy's turnaround as a company has been impressive. I'm glad they didn't fade away like Radio Shack and Circuit City.

Only the batteries, sir? Ok. That’ll be $5. I need your phone number, address, birthday, and blood type. Sorry sir, the system makes me fill it out.

Southern Electronics, 2301 Julia (lake side of Superdome).

Old-time professional parts house, which means you will not be paying discount prices. But great people.

There was a time when RatShack actually carried things in the store like resistors, caps, inductors, transistors, the stuff needed to actually build and fix things.....AND employed people who had an electronics type background.

Those are the days I miss.... along with go8ng in there for a $0.19 component but going home after burning $100 because the new soldering station was on sale.

You can thank all of the lazy bastards who only order via Amazon because they can save $1.25 on that cable.

Totally understand and agree. While their electronics parts quality wasn't top notch, it would do in a pinch. Hell without RS I wouldn't have gotten out of some of my 300 level digital circuit classes...damn wirewrap.

Some of the little mom and pop electronic stores have gone away too. I remember we had one in Sulphur and it's gone now as well as one in Lake Charles, although it may still be there. The ones here in Huntsville, Al are both gone: W&W and Mock's electronics.

And now with all the maker stuff for Arduino and Raspberry Pi...you gotta order it. Damn big box stores.

My brother discovered that Best Buy hides the reasonably priced cords and components behind the sales counter. You have to ask for them.

Decent stereo components for the price especially speakers. Hidden bargains in the back of the store where all the small parts were located, picked up some good stuff cheap. Test gear wasn't Fluke grade but good enough for me. Spent too many hours to count just browsing thru the store.

The writing was on the wall for their demise when they started focusing on smart phone sales.

Miss Radio Shack it was a great resource for a young student and later engineer.

I have a radio shack in my area. Its called Radio Shack - Plaquemine Byrd Electronics LLC.. It has the Radio Shack logo, but I was talking to the owner one day and from what I understand, he has the name, but operates independently. Not sure how it works, but that place has saved me money.

The battery in my control used to open my van door and let my lift down went out. The place that puts in the equipment was going to charge me almost $300 to replace it and told me I wouldn't be able to find it in any stores around. I went to this radio shack.. He was able to order me the battery I needed for like $17.00. He even replaced it for me.

Someone else I know was telling me they had some issues with some electronic they were working on and right before they were about to buy a new one someone suggested to go there first.. And within 10 mins the guy had it fixed for a reasonable price. You can't go anywhere else and actually find someone who knows what the hell they are doing..

Does walmart have drawers full of diodes, resistors, connectors, fuses, cables, integrated circuits, etc.? I didn't think so.
