Merry Christmas Spleen. My dad's not in good health and last night when we celebrated with them I was so thankful that we were all together as a family. Thankful that they were a big part of my boys lives (all 3 are in there 20's) and thankful that all 3 boys have become good young men and productive contributors to society.

Second without my dad and first without my mom. It's hard, I wish they could see my son and create traditions with him.
I do appreciate the family I do get to spend the holidays with!

Merry Christmas Spleen
My Dad has been gone 7 Christmases now. A lot of happy memories but sad thinking about won't be. Miss him a lot on the holidays

My dad has been gone for 8 years. Maybe because I read this thread I dreamt of him twice last night . What a great Christmas present. Felt like he was visiting me. God bless all who have lost parents.

This just might be one of the most heart-warming threads I have ever read on here. I was in tears the entire time reading everyone's posts about their loved ones. Thanks for sharing everyone.
WOW -- THANK YOU ALL......we should be this loving and kind all year long. So much good advice re loving our families now because tomorrow is unknown! I got off a school bus at 12 years to be told my dad had been killed in a plane crash, then my son was lost to mental illness and the anti depressants at 21, going in to his Senior Year at Stanford.....my mom made it to 82 but her death from a stroke was stll a shock...
..thanks for the space to share here and relive those times
Hope has a name, His name is Jesus......
Love to all

My wife's dad is still here but this is the 2nd Christmas without her mom. It's been hard for her.
I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry you are missing your parents Spleen. I agree with your sentiment.
My dad passed away last year, Nov. 3rd. It's been tough and glad we still have my mom.
I wish you the best this Christmas.

It gets easier every year but it gets rough here and there this time of year. Both of my parents are gone too and it’s a weird when I’m at the in-laws enjoying their generosity and love but having that gut feeling of jealousy not having my folks around. Just have a moment or cry to yourself and carry on. It sounds like you have a good group around you and appreciate them all the more. Merry Christmas.

I don’t know what life would be like without my parents. Who would I tell about the gossip on tigerdroppings?

Unfortunately it doesn't. Lost my mom 37 years ago, and standing at the cemetery this morning, all I could think of wa all the things she never got to see, and the fact that my kids and their kids never got to meet "old maw maw"

I re-read the OP and am pleased the OP'er has a support group. I wish I had that. My relatives are all gone! It is an undescribable emotion.

You will see them again... Keep your head up and know that they are watching from above and want you to remember the past and to make new memories for the future.

Happens to me constantly. He was my golf partner.
In the wind he's still alive

This. The pain never goes away. I was a wreck at 27 knowing my son or daughter would never meet their Grandfather.

Just getting a chance to read all the prelims in here. Thanks for all the kind words and for sharing your own struggles.
Christmas Eve was rough as I found myself the last one still awake, had probably had a few too many drinks, and got lost in my memories and feelings. Yesterday’s chaos with my wife’s family didn’t really allow much reflection, and I guess that’s a good thing.
