It will never go away, but once you do things on your own it will get better.

I have been there, lost a wife in my 30's and had 4 kids to raise. Respect her emotions and just support her. Just letting her know you care will probably make her cry. It does with me.

I’m spending tomorrow at the cemetery decorating my son’s grave. Born June 27, 2016 and left us on March 11, 2019.

Third Christmas without my Mom. She did SO much to help me raise my daughter and of course myself growing up. I could never repay her here for all she did but she passed after a brief bout with a nasty leukemia. Breaks my heart to think about it. My Dad is still going strong but we all have this tremendous empty spot we wrestle with daily, especially at Christmas. OP...stay strong and best wishes to all who have had recent losses to let the precious memories of your loved one(s) warm your heart rather than feel the burden of loss this Christmas!

God bless you, Spleen. I'm in my 40's and know I'm on the down side of my folks with me at Christmas. Your advice is very strongly heeded.
I hope you smile knowing they're with you now in spirit just as much as in your memory.
Merry Christmas.

Lost my mom to cancer a few years ago. She was in her mid 50’s and I always thought she would be here longer. I miss her so much, the holidays really make it so much worse.

Thank you for sharing your heartfelt memories and feelings. They made me cry and I will take your words to heart. Thank you, dear friend.

My sister got me made a blanket out of my moms shirts. Crazy how comfortable the blanket actually is and the underlying meaning behind the blanket makes it so much better.

I know the feeling dad passed one year ago and mom seventeen years ago. Feels like it was yesterday.
Merry Christmas

This is the 2nd Christmas without my mom, 7th without my dad.
Longer for both for me but still miss them. I would give almost anything to spend the rest of this day with them.

My mom is still here but it's the second without my dad. Miss him every day but it's a little tougher today. He was crazy about my kids and knowing what he has to miss with them kills me.

First Christmas without my dad. It's been almost 3 months
I picked up my phone to call him yesterday and almost broke down. Still haven't cried since the funeral. Just how I deal

You'll cry. Trust me. You'll hear a song lyric or a thought will pop in to your head while youre driving and you'll lose it. Been almost 2 years for me and it still happens occasionally.
I remember the week my dad passed. It was a monday morning and I stopped to get gas on the way to work. My car wouldnt start when I tried to leave the gas station and without thinking pulled my phone out and started to call my dad to come give me a ride back to the house in case I couldn't get it started. Thats a hard habit it break, knowing that the person you've relied on for help your entire life isnt there anymore. He passed away that Thursday, 3/8/18.

Thank you everyone for putting into perspective how appreciative we should all be. I have an extended family that has no idea how good we have it at times in terms of good health etc and we get caught up in so many stupid and trivial things.
Redstick13, you are my hero. We are on an anonymous message board and I have no idea who you are, but I will be thinking of you and your family and will say a prayer of encouragement for you today. I have a 3 year old and can’t imagine what you have gone thru and continue to go thru. Blessings to your family.

This is my second as well. It is very difficult. Not being able to even just hear her voice. She made EVERY Christmas so memorable and special. Everything she did, she would go out of the way to make it happen.
It's so hard to lose someone as close as a parent, especially a mother. And holidays make it much more painful.
Sorry for your loss.

My Dad passed 10 days ago. Mom 6 years ago.
I didn't think it would be this difficult.

Christmas may be the toughest for me without my folks. Hold on to the memories.
Have a Merry Christmas.
