I haven’t read this whole thread, and don’t know if someone has already posted about how many people go out there and what a huge party atmosphere it is. Particularly on July 4th. There are so many boats and people, it would be easy to imagine the kid chasing tail or the white kids thinking he may have already left with others. Here’s a video of July 4th 2021 for reference. Horn Island party July 4th, 2021

Crickets from QJenk. Historical facts are hard.
EDIT: should have kept reading they did reply, just with dumber and dumber narratives.

What I will say is, from what I've seen regarding the case. Those boys were not his friends. I don't mean this in the sense that they did something sinister, but rather , they just didn't care that much.
you don't know these families and kids personally so you're pretty much a hypocrite when this was your statement above.

I refuse to accuse someone without actual proof.

quote:

How do you all go somewhere together, but then y'all have non-issue leaving someone behind
seriously how old are you? this completely normal behavior with guys who are not homosexual when they're trying to get laid. many posters including myself have been left behind or left others if meant someone could get lucky that night. It happened all the time in my college years at tigerland or at club lavela or the florabama.

quote:

leaving someone behind, without having 100% certainty that said person will have a ride back. Not to mention, the young man's phone was allegedly left on the boat.
were you there? how do you know these conversations didn't take place? If he was left and stayed with another group of mutal friends including his GF that's completely normal. As far as the phone is concerned do you really think teenagers that are drinking alcohol and have wool on their mind are making the best and wisest decisions?

quote:

So he wouldn't have even had a way of contacting anyone

I'm sure someone on that island with as many boats that were there would have a phone and he would remember his own phone number no?

quote:

Tbh I don't know what type of bro code that is. Im not leaving my bro somewhere just because he's talking to a girl. Either I'll wait a lil for him to do his thing. Or I'll tell him to get her number because we're leaving. If we do leave him, I'm going to make sure he's got his phone in order to make sure he's ok and has a ride back.

But no, I'm not going to leave a friend behind with no ride with a random girl he just met. That's not cock blocking, that is being a good friend. Regardless of skin tone
so you're gonna follow them to the bedroom to make sure he's safe? again you weren't there so you have no idea if the conversations already took place. Again some of these actions from these kids are no different than what the majority of us experienced from ages16-28.

Can someone give me an overview of what we actually do know? Without all the drama I have seen on social media.

I’m not sure how old you are, but have you ever been on a spring break trip before? I remember going to the beach in Panama City, going to Club La Vela and other places like that, and having no clue of where anyone who you arrived with is until days later. Everybody gets drunk, makes friends with random people and hooks up with girls before separating and heading off in different directions. This seems to have a similar party atmosphere where I could put myself in this same situation 25 years ago. Very easily could one friend have slipped off into the water and never been heard from again.

Yes, I've been on multiple Spring Break trips. Heck, in college we used to routinely visit other cities or other colleges just for the purpose of partying and meeting girls. But what you described is not how we operated at all. There was never a thing of not knowing where everyone is for multiple days. The general rule is if you arrive together, you leave together.
Are there exceptions to that rule? of course. But generally, those things are discussed so you can know when everyone is getting back together.

But while out partying, drinking, etc. Would I leave a buddy behind just because I saw him talking with some chicks and assume he will find his way back somehow? Absolutely not.

Not to derail the thread, because I think this is a case of a simple drowning, but you brought this up, so ...

A very well-known incident from 1998.

quote:

James Byrd Jr. (May 2, 1949 – June 7, 1998) was an African-American man who was murdered by three men, two of whom were avowed white supremacists, in Jasper, Texas, on June 7, 1998.

Shawn Berry, Lawrence Brewer, and John King dragged him for 3 miles behind a Ford pickup truck along a dirt road. Byrd, who remained conscious for much of his ordeal, was killed about halfway through the dragging when his body hit the edge of a culvert, severing his right arm and head. The murderers drove on for another 1+1/2 miles before dumping his torso in front of a black cemetery.

Brewer and King are among the few white men to be executed for killing a black person in Texas since the death penalty was reinstated in the 1970s.

High level,
4 friends take a boat out to Horn on the 4th.
At about 4:30, the bilge malfunctions and the boat has water in it.
Group decides to leave early because of this.
According to group, Wells was with a female and not ready to leave. He told the group that he would catch a ride home with other friends.
Guys return and notice Wells' phone in the boat, return it to his parents house.
Wells never makes it back that night, and parents file a missing persons report around midnight. Boat searches begin almost immediately.
Ground and boat searches the following day find nothing.
Body found Monday.
Girl in question, says her and Wells parted ways at some point. She doesnt know where he ended up after that.

I think this is all that is "confirmed".

You're talking to some a girl at a party & she says "Hey we're going to this other party, wanna go with us?"

The proper response is "hell yeah lets go", not "first you must wait on me to hunt down my friend group & inform them of my whereabouts & means of transportation otherwise they will worry about me because we are all such good friends".

Personally, I would say the correct response is, "hell yea, let me get my boys so they can come too!" Either that or, "hell yea, let me talk to my ride so they know where I'm at"

Just stop.

This is the problem with racial discourse. On the surface, there is nothing odd going on here, but you will pretend there is, to the death, because you must keep the racist strawman alive - even if it means ruining the lives of this kids friends.

So if Nolan said he’s riding back with Jenny and her crew, you are going to stay for hours making sure he got a ride.

I can see how what I said could be confusing. But I was saying that if I see my friend talking to a girl, I'm not just going to leave them and assume he'll figure it out. I will talk to them to confirm plans.

"Yooo, we about to head out, let's go. Oh, you about to stay with Jenny. Are they gonna be able to bring you back out? You may want to make sure... Aight cool, be safe, I'll catch you later"

K. Great. Doesn't mean you're a good friend or whatever the hell point you were trying to make. It's perfectly normal for people drinking & partying to wander off on sidequests.

They did.

The boat had a mechanical issue and they had to leave. Wells said he'd catch a ride home with other friends. They weren't surrounded by total strangers. These kids all grew up on the coast, so this is no different from catching a ride home from a bar or house party to them.

You are smearing some kids who in all likelihood were a lot more colorblind than you are.

Yes, but a part of being a good friend is to look out for each other and make sure each other is straight so we can call come back home in one peace and live to party another day.

100% I believe he would do that, there is always one in the group that is like that (at least in my friends circle in college)...however, if you are surrounded with multiple groups of people you know...this burden becomes alittle lighter to handle

This kid probably went out for a swim on the western tip of the island...and drowned in the current. People are very shocked at how silent a drowning can be and how fast it can happen (ESPECIALLY if alcohol and/or drugs are involved)
