I can't imagine what it does to a 13 year old mind to sit there and watch some masked man literally blow your mom's head off right beside you.
Not to mention, she probably feels like it's her fault since he killed them to get her. Of course it's not her fault that someone is completely insane, but yeah.. I can't imagine how a 13 year old deals with this.

Really glad she’s alive

As for the pos murderer, tall tree+short rope. And hang there for at least a week.

The only purpose I can see in not executing him as soon as possible is that I've heard a lot of criminologists can learn a lot about what goes on in these sickoes' heads upon interviewing them and even performing tests on them.
And maybe that could someday help prevent another tragedy like this from occurring again.

I can't remember the specific serial killer, but I think it might have been Edmund Kemper. They interviewed him extensively after he was caught. One of the more terrifying things he said, regarding picking a victim, was somthing like if he was walking down a street and a girl smiled at him, that might do it, or even if a girl just made eye contact with him! How fricking nuts - and terrifying - is that?
This poor girl was getting off of a school bus that this Patterson a-hole just happened to be behind. Didn't know her name, never spoke to her, never SAW her before! He drives 65 miles back home and starts planning on killing her family and kidnapping her! It's nuts!

He doesn't see people as people....him choosing this girl is no different than you choosing which deer to kill or fish to keep. Something just caught his eye and he made his choice. If it wasn't her, it would've been someone else.
As the poster above said, it's important we study these types as closely as possible so that we can cut these frickers down before they harm anyone.
I'm glad she's physically unharmed and free. She's young and can get through this with a high quality of life if she's looked after properly.

Have you ever seen how they did it in Mongolia back in the day. Immurement. They just put you in a box with a little hole you could stick your head out of and left you to slowly dehydrate and die as people walked around you . With food and water just out of your reach by inches. Just staring at that water. Maybe somebody felt pity and gave you some water and it prolonged it another few days. Let’s bring it back for this one guy.

That Elizabeth Smart girl appears to be doing well from what you see in public, but it's hard to believe she's not really damaged. She had some crazy old man raping her multiple time a day for seven or eight months.
Who knows what actually happened to this girl over the past three months. Patterson is charged with murder, kidnapping and burglary so far. That all happened at Jayme's home. Maybe no sexual assault took place, but it's hard to believe that he killed two people and kidnapped a 13 y/o just so he'd have someone to talk to. Maybe no information is being released about any sex crime because law enforcement is trying to protect her. I'm fine with that.
I just hope she gets the psychological support she's going to need. This poor girls life got turned upside down at age 13 by a fricking lunatic. It's sad ...
I'm just waiting to find out what else this guy has done. I hope the cops are turning over every stone and interviewing every person who ever had contact with this a-hole.

Elizabeth Smart was fortunate to return to a loving stable family with a lot of faith and religious influence. Like it or not, that’s how she survived.
I hope this girl has some stability and religious faith to help or whatever she needs to survive emotionally.

Hey, I hope Elizabeth Smart has put her ordeal completely behind her and she sleeps like a baby each night. But I don't know how that happens, no matter how much counseling, support, etc she receives. It just seems like too terrible and long of a traumaa to go through for a young girl to be able to ever completely get over.
I know she does some public speaking and is involved in some victim's adovcacy groups. I'm assuming that helps her some
personally, in addition to the people she helps. I wish her the best. She seems like a really nice young woman. I just wish she, Jayme, Traci Dugard and other girls like them never had to go through what they did. There are some evil people in this world.

I would say put a shotgun in his face and pull the trigger, but that would be to quick for this pos. I cant imagine what this girl has gone through, she definitely has a rough road ahead.

Holy shite! I just watched "I Am Elizabeth Smart". It's an interesting look at what she went through. But, by far and away, the best parts are little segments interspersed in the movie of current day Elizabeth Smart explaining her mindset and adding details to the scenes just shown. That young lady is really somebody special.
It not a "great" movie, but it's certainly illuminating and explains quite a bit about her ordeal. It worth a watch.

God bless that poor child. No telling what she went through, and now has lost both parents. Just awful to think about.

Didn't know about her parents passing away. They must have been fairly young, because she was one of the oldest of a large family.
Abducted at age 14, repeatedly threatened with death and the death of her family, held hostage by crazy people and raped every day for 9 months. It's a miracle she isn't a complete fricking basket case.

What if he likes it and grows to enjoy it daily? Do you still wish him pleasures?

Maybe she just didn't want to talk about that part and law enforcement didn't press the issue bc they knew the double murder and kidnapping would be enough to put this sicko away for life

And I'm still fine with that.
