Can someone help me out with something? This is an honest question I have never ask before and not some attempt at prying an opening for a further argument.

I was taught as a child in church babies that died went to heaven as they were without mens rea. I understand the Catholic limbo issue (which Dante makes seem rather nice but separated from God) but I understood the Catholic church did away with the babies going to limbo.

It always seemed to me babies that died before the age they could commit sin got to skip the crappy part and go straight to eternal bliss. They simply avoided any of the circumstances or choices that could lead to damnation. It seemed like a winning lottery ticket in the big picture. This in mind would seem to make the major benefit to pro-life is one less negative chalk mark on the soul tally for the now parents.

I can see multiple views of this but for the unborn baby/fetus it seems that going straight to heaven could be the preferred option.

Shhh. All these conservative religious people don’t want to think about the real history and thoughts regarding abortion.

St. Augustine. Not homicide.

Later on Irish Canons said sex outside marriage was a greater sin than abortion.

Aquinas: vegetative soul, animal, etc.

John Calvin once wrote a consolation letter to the parents of a stillborn child using this very argument. I imagine they found little comfort in it, But Calvin was pretty much an a-hole, so it was in character for him.

If you’re going to cut and paste, you might as well cite the source.

Here...I did it for you: LINK

Which is entitled “Abortion and Catholic thought. The little-known history.”

One big problem. Irish Canons are from the Church of Ireland.

You also shortened Augustine’s writing to omit the completed position:

quote:

St. Augustine declared that abortion is not homicide but was a sin if it was intended to conceal fornication or adultery.

I didn’t cut and paste. This topic is so old I have this memorized.

And the rest of the position isn’t relevant since abortion is legal, therefore no one is really hiding anything.

Ah, you have random research paper from 1996 memorized to list the three very things discussed, in order with near specificity? You didn’t want to cite other Christian positions on abortion?

Just be honest.

It’s only irrelevant because it doesn’t make your point.

I have read that paper before. Sorry.

These are pretty basic stuff except for Irish Canon.

I could also talk about formation of fetus and quickening.

Sorry that this oft repeated thread seems unique to you. But after posting the same rebuttal numerous times, yes I do have the basics memorized.

No. It’s not relevant because no one is hiding. Sorry that facts get in your way.

She’s so fine.

On a different note does anyone know what happens to a fetus after it is aborted? Is it just thrown in the dumpster, donated to science, or is it used as some sick Chinese soup that will add vitality to life?

Just because she's pretty doesn't mean she's a good person. In fact, it means the opposite in a lot of instances.

The daughter of a musician who played for Aerosmith, huh? Yeah I bet she had no money at all to raise a kid. Just too inconvenient.

What a whore.

Catholics believe in original sin thus the need to baptize infants to wipe away this sin. Aborted babies are not able to be baptized thus the past beliefs of limbo with infants. I am not sure this was ever an official teaching. The way I understand it is that the church teaches that the soul of aborted babies is left to the mercy of God. If all aborted babies are hellhound because of original sin it is even more abominable.

Abominable in regards to the woman or God? Or both?
