Sorry for the controversial opinion that the Afghanistan war was a wasteful quagmire than did not meaningfully achieve it's main goal of destroying the taliban despite costing us trillions of dollars and thousands of american lives. Crazy I know.

Okay, so what option is there other than bitching on an internet message board?
I have young clients buying their first homes every week and Florida isn't cheap. Maybe it is harder to achieve the American dream, maybe the push for college education was bullshite(I agree), but there's no shortage of money out there. In 2013 my first corporate job after fedgov work I got paid 37000. 5 years later I left that job making 100k to start over completely. Made no money for two years. Now I make more than I could've ever imagined or need so I pay my employees extremely well.
Point is, us peasants can't control shite about inflation, COL, etc. only thing we can control is continuing to pursue better opportunities as soon as the present themselves. When the resident plant workers talk about all their OT worked to earn X, I honestly say kudos to them because there's no fricking way I could live that lifestyle. But at least they aren't making bullshite excuses and playing the victim game for why they can't be successful.

live in Lafayette. Just a quick Redfin search shows lots of options for a starter home in decent areas under $200k.
“I found an non-shithole starter home in the suburbs of the 3rd largest city in statistically one of the worst states in America. So yeah things are affordable”

Here's a brand new one being advertised for 32. I bet you can get them down to 30 or 31. LINK
After nearly $4,000 in dealer incentives. So, it's MSRP is $35,835. Appreciate you proving my point.
Sure, there are deals, and you can get them in the low $30's, but your personal deal isn't the stated price.

I said you were dumb for saying you volunteered. You didn't.

Anyone cover the fact that the median house is anywhere from 50-75% larger today than in 1971.

The older generations comfortably bought houses 50-75% larger than the ones they grew up in. A 1971 house purchased by a boomer was WAY bigger than the 1940's house they grew up in.

I'm from out west originally. Lived in several different states. And Lafayette is the best place I've lived. If something like Lafayette is too beneath you, then you are proving my point.
You must have it too good already to consider any other option but an expensive house.

The world didn't run on debt and the stock market back then.
Those sneering at this kind of thing, glad you aren't suffering from it... but many are, especially young people. And if you live so long, you won't enjoy the measures that are eventually taken to try and "correct" the problem.

the fact that you think the main goal was to destroy the taliban and not to stop Al Qaeda and stop terrorist attacks on our soil tells me you are the one with the low iq
we agree on the rest but that does not make someone that volunteered dumb either.
stop being a stupid frick

Don’t forget it probably has more than one bathroom, AC, central heating, internet, microwave…

None of yall volunteered
I never said that enlisting makes you dumb. I said that there's a stereotype that military members are dumb. Techdave is doing his best to advance that stereotype and unfortunately you are following in his footsteps.

I live in BR. Lafayette isn’t beneath me at all.
But once again you’re being very disingenuous if you’re using Lafayette Louisiana as your benchmark for determining affordability in America.

The boomers moved away from the 1940s style houses and now those houses are in the ghetto
