re: Minimum wage in the 1970s would be the equivalent of making almost $56,000 a year now

siding with Scruffy on this, I just looked up prices in what was a very nice neighborhood near where I grew up, home prices are reasonable, and the lots are decent sized but I also looked up the crime stats in that area and I believe that is what is keeping the prices down
ETA: the high school, which was once as good of a public high school as there was in town is now a ghetto infested war zone
So then the problem isn't just the economy, real estate market, or inflation. The larger problem is that affordable areas are infested with criminals and derelicts who diminish the quality of life for those that live there. This is why we needed tougher laws and consequences along with the ability to remove these people from society.
You can get a cheap house in Birmingham in Ensley, Fairfield, and Bessemer. But you're going to be robbed and assaulted during your time there. Forget any bit of a quality education as your kids will go to school with a majority population who doesn't value learning. You are also committing to losing resell value unless your area is gentrified.

Yeah, telling spoiled people to do something for themselves gets them really fired up.
I mean I get that some areas are expensive, but I think the real problem is they won't do what it takes and move. They want all the amenities of city life then complain when it's too expensive. Duh, everyone wants those amenities. Be willing to give up a few things for financial goals.

Our pathetic politicians will just continue to kick the can down the road.

How do you feel about people who want work from home remote jobs?

Are millenials supposed to get drunk alone? You can’t uber out in the country
Boomers got to drink and drive everywhere and got in power and pulled the rug out from under millenials

You didn't get paid? Damn there's got to be someone you should talk to about that?

What does that even mean?
When I say volunteered.....what I'm talking about is I was already enlisted when the Afghanistan war started. There was a unit going to OEF and needed additional soldiers to fill their roster. I volunteered but would not have gone if I didn't raise my hand.

as a teen I had a job that paid $2.50 hr. I always had money in my pockets while a lot of my non working friends had to get money from parents.

so lets do this
acknowledge yea there are places like Lafayette, LC, suburbs in texas and south of nola, and much of the south were yea you can get a house for decent price but it will be very small and a starter home which is fine
but what you are failing to acknowledge that for 75% of the population that is not feasible. its also not feasible for them to move to areas that do have housing in good areas like that because if they do....the price goes way up
one other thing though is we are forgetting, yea prices along the gulf coast can be found like that but insurance is way higher and right now interest rates are higher too.
its ok to acknowledge that hey....there are places you can still do that, but they are much fewer and further than previous generations

If you hate American soldiers thats fine, but maybe keep it to yourself. They are braver than your keyboard warrior arse will ever be.

Not a surprising response to someone who calls out your lack of reading comprehension lmao.
Were you army or a marine?

Ok, I can work with that. If everyone did what I'm saying, then it wouldn't exist anymore.
However, the options are there if someone wants it.

The median home price = $420,000
And the median square footage is 2-3x what our grandparents lived in.
Our "cheap" cars now have leather seats, we eat out 50x as much as they did, and almost everything we buy is made with designed obsolescence. Let's not even start on higher education.
It's our own choices. Our own fault. It's possible to live differently.

The answer is my former posts on this thread. But you may actually have to understand how the military works to be able to derive that info. Best of luck.
